It's not a critical issue for me, but I've always been a case person. I'm careful with my phones and have never (knock on wood) dropped one. I just prefer using a phone without rubber-baby-buggy-bumpers (RBBB) or screen protectors...even more so with the passport because the screen is so excellent.

That said, I'm really frustrated by the dearth of cases for it. There are a few, but mostly they're of the RBBB variety, or the folio style (which I don't like, just for the fact that on a phone with a keyboard, you have to fold back the cover every time you use it, and it makes for an inconsistent feel).

I found Story Leather who make custom cases. The stuff seems good, and after contacting them, they said the are working on a modification of their Boxxee Model where one side is lower to reveal the notification light. ETA for the design is sometime next week. Pricey...but custom...so there's that.

But the point of this smoulder is that there's just squat out there for the Passport. I get that it's not a massively mass market device like the iPhone or Galaxy (insert number of cheap plastic device here), but come on...someone has to be making something. Even Blackberry doesn't have much other than a RBBB.

    /end smoulder

That said, I'll put a note here when I hear back from Story Leather since they're showing a little Blackberry Love (or at least the willingness to look into it).

All of us who are Passport owners are feeling your pain.

The OEM hard shell case is pretty good -- not sloppy at all. It actually improves the grip and is raised just enough at the front to allow it to be placed face-down to use the advanced interactions.

Well, that was quick. StoryLeather has just sent me a reply to the request for a hole or space to be cut in their Boxee Case to accommodate the notification light (so you can see it without pulling the phone up to check). Long story short: the answer is, when you are ordering on their site there is an option to make a special request. They said, "our team asked that if you would like place the order, simply note how far down you would like the edge to come down for the notification. You can note that in the special request area."

I'm going to send along an image of the Passport (with dimensions, and note exact location of the LED notification light.

You can have any one of a number of clips or belt loops added to the phone (see here).

So...there's hope for us Passport users! Woot!

Look at Kobo mini cases. The kobo mini is almost perfectly matched with passport. Another user here actually put a passport in a case and says it works. I was only going off of my Canadian passport. Which fit perfectly.

That looks really nice. I'm probably going to stick with the LeatherStory - after exchange and shipping it's cheaper for me. But if I were in the UK or on the continent...I'd do that for sure. Looks nice! And the wool is a nice touch too.

I actually found a holster at a local flea market that is a perfect fit. I wonder what it was really made to hold but I got lucky and it was only $10

I have the Ryan passport as well. I have to say that while it's construction is good, it's a bit bigger than I expected. Adds a lot more bulk to an already large device. My search continues. I wish BlackBerry would put something out real soon!

They should have had at least 2 to 3 choices out of the gate including the leather folio flip. This is afterall an entreprise device. Pathetic and frustrating.

I bought this case for my wife. It was about $20 shipped, from Italy to Canada and took about ten days to arrive. I bought it on eBay. The red was a custom colour.

Mind linking that? I'm guessing they have black...

In terms of cases, amzer has 30% off today... making the Pudding case like 6 over the 12 from cb. Shipping is 5, but if you get a couple other items it will offset the shipping pretty nicely. I believe they even have a micro USB dock for 30 (which would be about 20 after discount).
