Im listening to Tidal on Audeze EL8 open and for the first time noticed clipping using the Passport. Im thinking about getting a Cambridge Audio DAC Magic Plus to eliminate any possible future clipping. Does anyone have any experience using this DAC with Passport or any other DACs?

Sony PHA-1 working great with Passport and OS 10.3.3.1435 - USB OTG cable needed, off course.
Not tested PHA-2 yet, but will come soon.

That is excellent news. What software are you using? Can you tell what bitrate is being used (i.e. can you get 24/96)?

Awesome news! I have a Meridian Explorer but if I understand correctly it would require an OTG Y cable and an external battery pack, too much hassle and not very portable. Don't have the funds but I've been leaning towards a Pioneer xdp-100 DAP to complement my Passport; it assumes that whatsapp would work on it though, which might not be a given.

    Hi Otaku2,

I'm using the standard "Music" application provided with my passport. Listening to 16 bits / 44.1 kHz FLAC . I'd be glad to help you determine which is the upper limit for sampling bits/rate ..

Using Linux/VLC I may check what's the maximum combination of bits/rate available by the pha-1 . But we'll have to wait a few more days to get this info.

Maybe you can provide me some sample tracks ?

Are u using a specific audio application on bb10 ?

BTW, Sony pha-2 is not working on my blackberry passport running 10.3.3.1435 ... sounds mysterious ..

Hi. You can try any of the FLAC files from 2L (2L High Resolution Music .:. free TEST BENCH)
I am using NeutronMP as my music player. So far, neither it nor the standard Music app will work with my Audioquest Dragonfly, so I am trying to find one that does work. Apparently the Fiio player does work but does not support 24/96.

Hi Eric, here are the results of my tests so far (sorry for the delay):
    - Passport 10.3.3 + Pha1 : up to maximum spec, ie: 24bits/96kHz using standard bb10 music player.

    - Passport SE 10.3.2 + pha1: up to 16bits/44.1...

Looks like 10.3.2 is not suited for high end Usb Audio.. I wish I find a stable 10.3.3 update for my SE..

By the way I own the pha1, but pha1a goes up to 192kHz.. unfortunatelly I have only pha1, 2 and 3 I my collection.. so I cannot tell if it's working with any bb10

Hi all, i have just tried schiit fulla 2 and i can say that it works very well. Only odd thing was that i had to use an old nokia microUSB to USB datacable, because via original cable packed with fulla it couldn't connect to the phone. The same problem occured with BlackBerry cable. Headphones were DT 770 PRO 250 ohms. Result was awsome :-)

Hi all, and Losgringo. Just posted another thread today (03/22/18) based on the same question under "What's the latest update on BB10's Passports/Classic's w/ OTG USB DACs?" Don't know how to link the thread (yet). Anyway, for Losgringo "How did you get your Schiit Fulla 2 to work w/ your Passport? I have a Schiit Modi Uber 2 DAC w/ Schiit Magna 2 amp and cannot get the DAC recognized via micro USB on the phone w/o a specialized Schiit driver. Using OS 10.3.3.1463.

Any comments you or others can add would be appreciated. Thanks!

OK, correction. The DAC is a Schiit Modi 2 Uber connecting to a Schiit Magni 2 Uber headphone amp. Yes, those are their names. :-)

Finally got a USB OTG cable to try with my Meridian Explorer... I get this notification:

DACs and Headphone Amps that work with Passport USB Digital Out-img_20180408_104815.png

This is a micro usb otg cable to female USB A, then USB male A to mini USB on the Explorer.

You got an overcurrent on the phone because it is in charge of providing power to the connected device which is asking for over half an amp. USB standard allotment is 0.5A.

I think something like this would help you though - a dual Type-A splitter to single Mini-B cable. One of those Type-As is for additional power, and you can plug that sucker into a wall charger to reduce the current drawn from the Passport.

It's outta stock on the Amazon one, but you can probably find one on eBay.

    Very nice topic guys!!
Personally I enjoy 96kHz using the ModPlayer (for the flac files) and I connect it to my headphones (Denon AH-MM300)

I would say that the sound is pretty good!

The Passport doesn't sound bad at all, particularly with flac... But the Meridian takes me to another planet, either with my little 2020i speakers or Meze Classic 99...

You sure that is the correct cable? I am not sure what DAC you are using, but I think you might need a micro-B, not a mini. My Kindle Fire<->Dragonfly uses a micro-B to connect to the tablet, and two USB-A's for the power Y.
