Don't know how it happened. Now I have a nice crack on my chin. It snapped back into place, but I hate the look of a crack on my beautiful Passport. Attachment 380857

That's just sucks man! I feel for you.... *hug*
Can you replace the chin?

Dam that sucks, wonder how you managed that lol Is that plastic or aluminum?
Well, I did say it was flimsy plastic... Thing folded like paper when I jammed a knife at it. Only appears solid because of all the adhesive under it.
Time to see if the Blackberry Care protection Plan works, if you have one.

Knife Hmmmm lol

Plastic pos... "Silver Edition" my a**...

Hahaha I would understand if they call it the metal edition, but except that you thought that the whole body was made of silver, then silver edition actually reflects how the phone is... it would be great that the entire frame is metal but as always, somewhere you need plastic to have better signal reception...

The Silver Edition seems more plastic than metal in actuality. I'm not a fan of its design with the silver painted plastic parts all over. Very cheap. The original has so much more prestige.

Yeah...right :-)

Well, I think the frame is metal except for the lower section (chin plus the frets) plus the sim and SD card cover... the rest is metal, am I right?

I am 99% sure that the chin is plastic. Very disappointing. I don't know whether to call Blackberry or not. I didn't have any protection plan, so they will probably tell me that they can't help me. I guess now I should have gotten the plan.
It almost seems like it cracked due to the cold, when plastic an get brittle.
If the entire body were metal, you'd have the same antenna problems that the iPhone 4 had. The fact that the chin is plastic is intentional.

I don't have a problem with the fact that the chin is plastic. I just have a problem with it cracking. It may have a legitimate design purpose.
The whole keyboard cover is indeed thin and flimsy plastic. The frets as well. These areas of the Silver Edition are plastic:
* Keyboard cover
* Speaker plate (this, however, is rather thick and reinforced - don't expect it to fall apart)
* Back plate
* SIM/SD cover
But the top and side frames are indeed metal, and tough at that. But from what I've seen of the keyboard cover, I wouldn't expect it to last much of any abuse. A direct drop would likely do it in. And I don't think BlackBerry Care covers cosmetic damage - only actual functionality issues.
For the plastic, it's indeed likely for the antenna, but it's still flimsy and poorly molded for the keyboard cover. Look at how it doesn't cover the sides, and leaves gaps where the speaker plate is. The whole of the device screams premium and quality until you reach the keyboard area.
I'm more and more happy every day that I didn't give into the impulse to sell my OG Passport and buy the SE one.
Sorry to hear about the chin issue. On the OG, it looks like a simple piece of plastic. The SE one seems to include the frets between the keys. It could be a bit more expensive to replace.
And iPhone 4 is all metal?
Amazing knowledge...1066 posts and counting...
I would love the entire keyboard cover and the speaker cover being metal connected to the metal bezel by the zero-gap metal-plastic-metal construction like the HTC (and the Note/S6 and iPhone 6/6s). Unfortunately BlackBerry doesn't seem to manage that level of engineering.

So where did you get it fixed and how much did it cost you? My passport has cracks and is missing a piece on the top fret. Hurts to look at it.

Blackberry is telling me if the Repair isn't covered under warranty it will cost 240$ to replace a piece of plastic. Does anyone know where I can find a replacement?

Maybe they can help you with the right part BlackBerry Passport Middle Frame Silver - ETrade Supply or US New Blackberry Passport Q30 Middle Mid Plate Housing Frame Bezel Buttons Flex | eBay
I'll check them out. Appreciate it.

Not really, only the chin is plastic, it feels more premium than the OG bc the edges are metal instead of the middle frame in the OG. Btw, I dropped mine and the chin got scratched, any word on a replacement chin? I couldnt find it anywhere.
