As we all have read most of the information up to date stating that passport will sport a snapdragon 800 processor. However, I have read a couple of sites that claimed passport will have 801?

Where do they get all this information from and how legit it is?

    Here is the source.

Yeah, personally unless John Chen says the Passport has a 801 or 800 processor. I presuming it doesn't have one :P haha

I think that the specs are going to remain a secrete untill the launch. Just like apple does with their iphone. No specs get released until the launch. Makes it more of a surprise

Still I have a little hope for a better one then the 800....and that could be possible because no one knows if he / she has a production version

Speaking of it, I have looked up some information online, and it seems like 2.5Ghz clock CPU is snapdragon 801. However, some of the information stated that passport has AB version processor, that should correspond to snapdragon 800.

Correct me if I am wrong.

I don't think that the latest, newest processor is really necessary for BlackBerry 10.3 OS.

It's the same like putting a V12 engine in a BMW 5-series. It just doesn't make any sense...

It all has to with the balance of efficiency, performance and design purpose/philosophy.

Could be but why use a "older" proc when there is already a newer one out there ( Btw do you know the M5 )

Exactly. Most sources stated that passport has 800 snapdragon, yet some according to the clocking speed, it should be 801.

Even the 800 is unusually current hardware for a new BlackBerry handset. I wasn't holding out much hope for the 801.

We saw this problem with the legacy devices towards the end of the blackberry heyday. Hardcore berry users know that the devices never went for the most powerful hardware available, rather it sported hardware sufficient enough to drive the phone efficiently with the least impact on battery life.

I worked in cellular retail for more than ten years and know first hand that steadily consumers started to ask questions which did not necessarily translate into what they needed. Its a market of talking points and one-upmanship. I am a big believer in being able to do what is necessary. At the moment, whether 10.3 needs the specs is inconsequential. Blackberry needs a big device win, and having the numbers will make the more possible. If its an under-clocked processor its most likely for battery performance. I could ask my buddies to confirm some of the details as could a lot of others here I am sure, but at this moment I want to let berry do what they are doing. I am very very hopeful of how its been going the last few months. Rooting whole heartedly.

If I don't get mixed up, current M5 generation is a turbo 6 cylinder engine. But hey, who's counting

Barely, personally for me this is true. But, for most consumers its more likely that they will buy a phone before their current device is end of life.

I really don't mind if it's a down clocked S800. Its still a quad-core Krait 400, and is still very much top of the line.

Newer phones are releasing with the 801, but that's basically a Snapdragon 800 oc'd to 2.5Ghz.

The Passport should definitely still be considered amazing specs. Most high end Android's don't have 3GB's of RAM (save for the Note 3 and G3).
