So with all the rumors going around about the Android Slider, if this does come to fruition, would it be technologically possible to install Android on Passports that is already running BB10? Just a thought.

I believe there were rumours of a working Android Passport in the labs at some point. I don't know how far they got with it though...

It is already installed. You could get android apps from Amazon store or Google Play or BlackBerry World.
Unlike other smartphones on the market, BlackBerry 10 can run a variety of apps.

Links please. Can it be done...? Ya probably. Can it be done on current hardware...? Probably not. I really don't think it's possible and considering BB10 has been out for over 2 years and there has yet to be any evidence of it actually being possible.

Passport already runs android. The folks over at blackberry just need to get Google onboard and figure a way to run the apps more efficiently. They get those two minor issues taken care of and we are good to go.

That being said, every app I have runs great. However, clash of clans makes my passport run hot and battery life drops a little. It's funny though, COC on my q10 runs great with no heat issues. Go figure. IMHO they just need to keep tweaking the android runtime.

I used to have a HTC HD2 back in 2009 which originally ran Windows Mobile 6.5. A couple of months later the guys from XDA developers introduced the first Android version. Basically the complete OS was replaced.

However, this takes massive efforts and I don't see why anyone would want to do so. And hardly anyone would like to have it, I assume.

I'm reminded of the CyanogenMod for the HP TouchPad. HP killed the product almost immediately after it was launched and sold the rest off for $100 or $150 (back when tablets cost $500). There was a hobbyist community that bought them installed Android on these devices for years. It was something to play with, however, there are always little issues such as battery life that make it not worthwhile for daily use.

You can't root a BlackBerry 10, therefore, you're not able to run any custom software on it.

What you can do is install an android launcher, but it's impossible to replace BlackBerry 10 with a full android version.

Some android apps will run on rooted devices only. Does it mean that my unmodified Samsung is not fully android? Some apps can't run on older android devices are those semi-android then?

If you can root the phone and get a custom rom that matches up with the hardware, then yes, you can run Android on a BlackBerry 10 device.

It's all about software working with hardware.

Now, has there been a Dev that has been able to figure out how to root the BlackBerry 10 devices?
Heck I don't know.

And has there been a ROM created to run on a BlackBerry 10 device?
Probably not.
But to say it's impossible and that you can't is not a correct statement either.

If BlackBerry released a loader for the Passport that loaded Android, yes, you could load it.

Could you sideload it? No, because you don't have BlackBerry's signing key and you need it to load anything that the bootloader will load into memory and execute.

But -- if BlackBerry did so, then yes, you could.

Incidentally the SOC they're using, and the rest of the hardware, is hardly unique. At most there would be a bit of driver work required to make Android operate on it.
