Then it's definitely because of the adaptor.

During a charge, the only enemy is heat. A long trickle charge is great, as is the new QC3 charger (Passport not QC compatible) which regulates voltage and current to deliver the correct amount at each stage of the charging process.

All that said, I used my PlayBook charger regularly with my Passport, and never noticed a negative affect. It is a 1.8A charger.

Probably the best health tip for a lithium ion battery is to provide top ups instead of allowing it to fully cycle. Between 50-80% is optimal. See this article:

Have you used the Passport for a considerable period?
Give it a couple of days to settle down.
Initially the phone syncs and indexes a lot which eat into the battery life.
Observe and report after a couple of days of use and charge cycles. I am sure you will be getting better battery than the Leap!

When idle, your system should be 5% or lower. If it is consistently above that, something is churning away in the background.

Do those steps mentioned in your other thread--especially for WA and other social media apps ie disable "run when minimized".

That's sounds reasonable. If you leave it alone for a couple of minutes it should stabilize around 4%.

It appears you have nothing mucking around in the background.
