If I were to use the playbook charger on my passport, would that damage the battery as they playbook charger is a different charge rate? I am asking because I've been hearing if you do switch chargers it will eventually degrade your battery.

Not that it really helps but I use my PlayBook charger to top off my passport on occasion. I don't really leave it on there but I used to charge my Q10 with it all the time and never had any issues. I am more cautious with the passport as it does not have a removable battery.

I do it, doesn't hurt the Passport at all my Playbook charger is rated at 1.8 Amps at 5 volt.

The Passport charger that came with put's out 1,3 Amps at 5 volts, so it's not that big of a difference to begin with.

The Passport uses a Snapdragon 801 soc and is thus compatible with Qualcomm's quick charge technology which can deliver up to 3 Amps at 5, 9 or 12 volts so it shouldn't hurt the Passport's components.

Moreover BlackBerry has, in the past, confirmed the that the Playbook charger can be used with the BlackBerry Smartphone and the charge rate might be throttled depending on the battery your phone uses:

Nah, you're good to go. I use a pb charger and a Z10 charger as well as a Sony Xperia charger. All good.

People must remember that the device draw power from the charger, NOT charger sending power to the device. So if tomorrow I have a 5000mA charger, the phone will not suck power more than the capacity of the battery.

So assuming your battery is rated at 2000mA, the charger will only deliver 2000mA to the device even tough its a 5000mA charger. However, if you have a 2000mA battery and the charger is 1000mA, then you may experience slower charging since the charger only deliver 1000mA.

It's been a while since I've used a playbook (sold mine a while back when Blackberry started to tank right before Lazaridis left).

How long is the cable on the Playbook charger?

I've been growing tired of how short the stock Passport charging cable is, was thinking if I'm gonna buy a longer cable, might as well just get a higher output charger as well, one that isn't aftermarket though.

I was going to ask this question but I'm glad the OP beat me to it

I use the Ventev dual USB 2.1 amp with my Passport and it's fine. There's an Ic chip which regulates the charge/trickle charge and will never over charge your device!

I use the international 5V 2A charger since i had Q10,Z30 and PP,work great,no issues. Its fast and that the point, dont wanna wait ages to fully charge my phone, imo a joke to give a lower A charge for a 3450 battery... ok,slower charging might be more efficent, but as mentioned, never had any problems or got less battery performance

I use an old charger I got with a BlackBerry from about three years ago or more. Exactly the same size housing as the PlayBook charger and has long cable, same as the PlayBook, but it's power output is even lower than the charger that came with the 9900 - I trickle charge overnight.

This charger does not even make the phone warm in the slightest, which I feel is good given that a hot passport can develop a loose screen.
