Hello again fellow Passporters. Quick question. I am trying to connect to my LG TV. The phone finds and lists it and tries to connect. The TV recognizes it but only gives me a decline option. How do you guys connect to a Smart TV? Thanks,

I connect to my older Sharp 60" (maybe 6 years old now) via DLNA using Settings/Media Sharing and enabling music, video and pic sharing. Works well for me and I use it mostly for playing music from my Passport. Also the odd video from phone to TV.

    Best to use a cable.

Passport will support a Miracast dongle if you can still find one.

Are you trying to mirror your PP screen on the TV or "beam" video/audio/photos to the TV? The former is Miracast, the latter is DLNA.

Thanks for clarifying! So neither the Miracast dongle point nor the cable is not relevant to that use case.

The PP acts as the media server with the native built in functionality and the TV is the receiving-end client. Works nicely. IIRC, while you're streaming this way, it frees up the phone for you to continue to use.

Hmmmm, I'll go through the settings on my phone and TV again and see what the road block could be. Thanks,

Do you have a dual band wifi network? If so, are both devices on the same band? (2.4 or 5 ghz)

EDIT: My bad. More relevant for Miracast (requires wifi) but not as relevant for dlna style media streaming. Though having the PP on 5G might ensure a steadier stream (albeit with less range than 2.4) if you get it to work.

My TV is on 5G, does the Passport support 5G? Sorry, actually, it is hard wired in. I do have a dual band router.

The PP supports 5G, yep. Hard wired in on the TV side should be fine, but I'd try the various combos if it continues not to work.

Have you done other obvious things like rebooting both devices?

Will do. Thanks. By the way, when I go into devices from Media Sharing, it shows me addresses but not the TV name. How do I identify the TV without accidentally sharing with my neighbours devise. Lol

Yeah that's always an irritant in the Media Sharing on Passport. You will manually have to check the ip address and remember/write down each connected device. Try removing ALL devices from the devices found, shutting off other wifi devices then restarting your Passport, then turn your tv on and check for devices again in media sharing. Look for the ip address of your tv and enable that connection. I'm not sure what LG calls their version of DNLA but you may have some setting in your TV that is not enabled under that connection. As mh1983 stated, your Passport is the streamer. Mine works automatically with my Sharp as long as the wifi is enabled on my TV with no other settings but LG may be different.

OK, I have identified the TV address and checked the box. So now a silly question. How do I stream it to the TV?

Now you're back to a Miracast dongle or a cable.

I guess so. It was very fiddley to set up and took 3 attempts to get it working. But in the end it did! Any suggestions on casting YouTube?

    Oh, gotcha. OK a dongle.

Glad you got the media sharing functionality to work!

But as conite said, you're looking at a Miracast dongle (wireless) or a cable (need some sort of converter for the PP) to cast/mirror your PP screen onto the TV. It's a separate functionality altogether.

As you alluded to in opening post, there's Miracast built into the TV. Maybe try that out again w/ both devices on the 5 ghz wifi?

Can't you just use the WebOS app on the tv?
