I recently bought an ATT branded Passport and the BlackBerry anti theft feature will not turn off. I have the previous persons id and password and when I open BlackBerry Protect, it shows turned off. It also shows turned off on the website to manage devices and that it no longer is associated with the previous ID. I have to log in with the previous owners credentials and try to wipe it, but, says that protect is still on and won't reset to factory. Don't know what else to do. I connected with link and tried to factory restore , but, it didn't do it. Also, it won't connect to AT&T when I put the sim in. If I put a different sim in, it says network locked. This is driving me insane

You might be better served by simply just running an autoloader over it to wipe it. This will wipe it clean and start the device off fresh and should clear things up on the backend, assuming what you're saying about having the credentials is accurate. Worst case, after wiped with the autoloader, it will ask you to login with the previous credentials which you claim to have anyway and you're no further ahead. However, best case will be that will reset the whole system properly and you won't have to worry about it.

Just download the latest autoloader for Passport from here - http://forums.crackberry.com/bb10-le...rchive-943672/ plug in your device, extract the file and let it run.

Thanks Bla1ze, I tried to autoload one yesterday and it was finished in 5 min. so I knew it didn't take. I will do the highest number today and see if that works. I appreciate the reply.

Thanks again, I ran the autoloader and nothing changed. It didn't revert to factory, just flashed a few files, but didn't really change much. I changed the email for the sign in credentials and now it emails me, but can't use BBM. It automatically associates with previous owner. Still cannot turn off Theft prevention. I turn on BB protect and it automatically turns off, but, still reports that it is turned on. I can't figure it out.

It sounds like the blackberry was protected and now it's useless. The phone will never be able to be used until the previous owner removes that, as far as I understand.

I contacted the previous owner and he said he removed it. He gave me his sign in credentials and I went to BB Protect online and there is no device associated with the ID. I changed the email to mine, and went to BB protect and it is not showing as associated with my email, even though I sign in with my email on the Passport. I am ready to drop this in the ocean.

Turns out, after much reading here on CB, that the Passport has been loaded with a dev beta 10.3.3 and most things are broken on it and cannot be changed to any other OS. No radios for phone, protect is broken and cannot be turned off, no apps whatsoever are on it. I am so bummed.

I can confirm that you cannot turn off BlackBerry Protect on a device with 10.3.3 DEV.

Thanks for the confirmation, CONITE. Is there any way to get the phone to work for calls and texts?

    I haven't tested it on a Passport, but 10.3.3 works fine on the Z10, Z30, and Q5.

Maybe try downloading the autoloader again in case there was a glitch.

Once that gets solved, install my app pack to regain most of the functionality of a proper OS.

Because you can't. Once on 10.3.3, you can't go back to 10.3.2.

Same as 10.3.2. Once in that, you can't go back to 10.3.1 or anything prior. This is because of the anti-theft component of BlackBerry Protect.

10.3.3 is the next version of the OS, which is currently the only available in the form of a crippled developer build.

There aren't any new features. Just a small maintenance update along with a security certification.

I remember when blackberry would push one to two major updates per year, and the feature enrichment that they brought was just fantastic.
