Setup Frustration - BlackBerry Link
My apologies for having to ask for help once again, however I'm getting rather frustrated with trying to set up my Passport. I received my SD card last night and popped it into my phone. That was the easy part! I connected my phone to my computer via USB cable, but could not see the directories or any indication of the SD card for that matter. I then decided to install BlackBerry Link to see whether a one-time configuration was required and that was not the least bit helpful. My firewall went nuts with Link trying to access various remote sites, which I grudgingly allowed once to facilitate the setup. This did not appear to accomplish the task and was very frustrating. I have read in the manual that you can set up your phone as a mass storage device however doing so would mean that apps are unable to access files on the media card. This seems to defeat the purpose if you are wanting to use the extra memory to take videos or for music.
Could someone please tell me how I should be configuring my phone? Here is a brief list of what I do and don't want to be able to do.
Wants:
- To be able to plug in my phone via USB cable and transfer files back and forth using Explorer.
- The camera and music player to be able to use and access the storage on the SD card.
Don't Wants:
- Connection to remote sites every time I connect my phone.
- To sync my phone with my computer.
- Remote access to my computer via my phone.
- Access to cloud storage.
- Having to install and use third party software in order to transfer files.
Is this too much to ask? One of the reasons I opted for a Blackberry was to avoid the Big Brother attitude of Google and Microsoft with their constant attempts to log and track your activities.
I do also have a few other questions if I may. I noticed when installing BlackBerry Link that it wanted to know which media player you used and offered a grand total of two options: iTunes and WMP. Was this merely at attempt to locate your music directory, in which case it's a good thing it couldn't access them, or does it have some other functional purpose? While on the subject, does the default BlackBerry music player recognise flac files, or does a separate media app need to be installed? If the latter is the case, could someone recommend an app?
Lastly, one of the main reasons why I decided to install BlackBerry Link in the first place was because it said it could facilitate the transfer of your data from your previous phone to your BlackBerry. Unfortunately it seems to indicate that it can only do this with other BlackBerries. I am wanting to transfer text messages, photos, and ringtones from an Android phone (purchased under duress while travelling). I was able to easily transfer the photos to my computer, but not the texts or ringtones. Could someone point me in the right direction for a tutorial on how to accomplish this?
Thank you very much!
