With all the threads moaning about the camera, I thought it would be good to start a thread which helps get the most from the camera. The passport camera is capable of stunning photos when everything goes right. This isn't a thread to moan about the problems, but to provide solutions to common problems, and help people get the most from the camera.

    So here goes:

If you get lens flare (bright lights shining in the lens) use your hand to shelter the lens.

Use focus lock to improve focus in low light situations, or when you don't want to wait for focus. Night shots are an obvious use of this, but also in daylight, you can prefocus so that quick shots don't need time. Taking a photo of a fast moving car (f1/indy) benefits from not needing to refocus.

Select night or action to ensure you get what you want. Night shoots the lowest possible ISO by increasing the shutter time. Action uses the quickest shutter by increasing ISO. Because we have OIS, long shutter times can work well.

Use burst mode with focus lock so you can post process a stack for superior night shots

Ok, so what are your tips?

Remember to keep the rear lens clear of smudges and finger prints. Clean this area with a soft cloth before you shoot anything you care about.
I prefer to move the focus point to a darker area of the framed photo so you can pick up definition in the darkest areas even if you are a little over exposed.
If you're taking a static photo, try turning on HDR to see what results you receive, just remember to hold the camera steady for a second or two after you click the shutter.
