Just curious... does the camera still focus pourly when you take the protecting film off? The device came with a protecting film of the back cover, when you take it off, there is a piece of protecting film that remains on the lens. After taking that off, my camera focussed fast. So may be just remove the lens protecting film.

    Great idea!

10.3.1.1016 definitely seems to speed up the focus process, but the end result is still not a very sharp image. Maybe they didn't use a very good optical assembly, so software can only do so much.

I wonder if it's the result of the extra mega pixels. Maybe it's more than just Software? I'd love to get that new build and try it out.

I agree that I want Z10 performance or better. My Z10 was even better than my wife's iphone 5s. We would take the same picture at the same time and compare. The z10 took a better picture, especially in low light.

The passport is a massive step backwards and I'm not sure why!

The camera is very poor on my Passport. I noticed this big time. Using any app it sucks, the auto focus is horrible. I had to forgo taking a picture because it wouldn't focus on anything close up. I was running the 10.3.1 leak on my Z30 and the camera was way better.

Might just be me, but it seems much lesser of a problem in 4:3 or 16:9 mode. The square 1:1 mode seems to give me the most difficulty!

BlackBerry hasn't been good at providing instructions at how to use the Passport 's camera. The hardware is the best BlackBerry has put in a smartphone to date, given it has the same sensor as the LG G3 and the lenses in smartphones are not made by the phone companies themselves but still outside companies.

The big difference is the software for most of the higher end camera phones with the exception of Sony, Nokia, and Apple. BlackBerry should hire away Nokia's smartphone camera software team to get them to develop the right software for bb10. Nokia 1020 has arguably taken the best smartphone camera photos ever and even it had a major problem which was after a few months the autofocus wouldn't work and it was determined to be a hardware problem.

The 1020 takes way better photos than the iPhone in good and dark light.

I'm hoping that they improve the software is for the autofocus as using a dslr I've grown accustomed to ensuring focus is always right. Once you find how to hold it so the focus is really steady then it seems okay. I haven't had any issues during good light and even at night I've taken some nice shots.

So we need a better software solution as the hardware is there. Nikon, Pentax and Sony have shared the same sensor for some of their cameras but the photos end up so different because of the software created for the sensor.

When the square is green my kids are getting impatient and foto is always out of focus. But when I made pictures without the kids it seems ok. It's focussing the whole time when there is movement and also when it says it's green.

How about 10.3.1.1151 guys? Any improvement? My PassportSQW100-1/10.3.0.1418 still Sucks at autofocusing.

The problem seems to be focusing at objects of a certain distance. Meaning further away. Close to medium distance the autofocus seems to do alright.

I installed the leaked OS version of 10.3.1.2480. The camera is better but still not as good as the Z10.

One annoyance is the delay after capturing a time shift picture it says 'detecting faces'. Well I disable face detection and it doesn't go away. Not sure if it is just a bug or its reticulating splines.

You can't disable face detection post-timeshift. That's the point of timeshift, you can change the faces without changing the rest of the photo.
