I've noticed that the camera on my Passport doesn't focus nearly as well as my Z10. I used to always use the hardware key for picture taking on the Z10 and now I use the virtual 'shutter' button.

Most of my pictures end up out of focus. Am I alone in this? I tried turning face focus on and off.... no difference.

I've noticed the same. It seems to struggle in low contrasting situations. Probably just a software issue which will get fixed in a future update.

Seems this latest update that they have just pushed out has some tweaks and improvements for the camera's autofocus. To me it seems a bit faster overall.

I'm in the same boat. Focusing in low light is not as good as my Z10 or Z30.

Camera is better then Q10, but still slow. Agree about the focus, has issues at times.

From what I read, 1418 or 908 which ever way you look at it, fixes the issue.

It definitely focuses much faster now. Seems to do be pretty well in less than ideal lighting conditions.

One thing I noticed about the camera is that you no longer have the ability to select where you want to focus by moving the little square around. Don't like that

I am running 10.3.0.675 on Telus.

Checked for the latest update, nothing came through.

I do notice the camera <struggling> at time to find the 'sweet spot' for focusing. Sure hope I get the update soon and that this is adjusted.

The camera is still lacking. But hopefully that can optimize this with a tweak in the driver.

Maybe its' because of the lighting. Sometimes it focuses slow on dark view

    So this camera seriously sucks.

The low light argument doesn't fly for me either. This phone can't focus in any light. The new build didn't help. I'd say about 50% of the time it is out of focus.

Even more the camera is slow. It's slow to turn on, slow to focus and slow to snap. In time shift mode it takes 3 seconds from snap to showing the time lapse bar. On my Z10 it was instantaneous.

My Z10 was as good as any point and shoot I've ever had. This Passport is a disgrace. I will take it back if a software fix doesn't come soon.

As a final kick in the a$$ the rotation doesn't work either. If you snap sideways it emails those pics out sideways as well. They appear proper in the viewer but aren't stored properly in memory.

I agree with all of that--the camera is so slow and bad I find myself not taking as many pics as I did with my Q. It's embarrassing when I ask someone to take a pic of me with friends and everyone keeps asking what's taking so long....not a good image for an already faltering company.

It's all software. Z10 is slow at focusing at times too. But it's not because of the hardware.

Best take it back as it will be awhile before a software update is out fixing the slowness of the camera. We wouldn't want you to keep a sucky phone now would we??

Just curious... does the camera still focus pourly when you take the protecting film off? The device came with a protecting film of the back cover, when you take it off, there is a piece of protecting film that remains on the lens. After taking that off, my camera focussed fast. So may be just remove the lens protecting film.

I think the gripe here is that the Z10 seems to do a better job. The Passport should be at least as good as the Z10, although most expect it to be better. That it seems to be pretty bad at focusing is pretty frustrating.

I also find myself retaking most of my shots, and having to really pay attention to the actual detail because the focus indicator (which goes green) is not accurately representing a focused state. Once taken, often times it has too much motion blur despite all attempts to keep the phone steady.
