Well, as stated in title. I've been in love with taking photos with my Passport camera because the quality of photos have been exceptional. However since yesterday my camera focus just stopped working altogether. It left me pretty much devastated.

Any clues to the source of this problem? Any solutions?

Did you perform and update or drop the device?
Try a simple restart and see how it acts. Also, try focusing on an up close item, macro, and see what happens...

I'm running official 10.3.1.1779, I never install leaks. Never dropped my phone either.

Tried restarting my device and what you suggested as well, didn't work. Camera focus is not working at all. Tried moving my camera in and out on the object but it stays blurry.

    Any other solutions? :<

The same thing happened to me. I tried everything to resolve the problem and nothing worked. Finally I took the phone back to the Vodafone UK shop and they exchanged it for a new one. Focus now perfected.

Try a hard reset by holding the volume up and down buttons down at the same time. Continue holding when the screen goes dark until BlackBerry is displayed. Then let go. This performs a more thorough resett and often clears issues.

As well, make sure the lens is clean and that the lens cover didn't become scratched.

    Hope this helps.

Unfortunately hard reset didn't work for me. Hope I'll find a solution soon because getting a replacement phone is the last thing I would want to do.

I had this happen to me on my red Passport.
I started noticing that my pictures just weren't focusing.

I took this picture while testing my autofocus, and this is how it turned out.

This is a hardware failure, and I had my red Passport replaced. All good now.

So should I bring this to my telco for a replacement? How do I explain that it is a hardware failure?

Interesting find. Never knew there's such a function to the shutter button o_o. Unfortunately that didn't work for me either. Camera refuses to focus no matter what I do. Is it confirmed to be a hardware issue? Should I try reloading the OS?

Did you try manually tapping on the screen and see if there's a square border popping up?

My PP was having big focus issues on .1779 as well. Try updating to a later version and see if that helps.
Also, sometimes you need to move the phone around to catch some different lighting, then back to the subject you're trying to photograph. Usually that will help it refocus and you'll get the green box. But I haven't needed to do that since updating

If the latest OTA and the shutter trick don't work, I don't think there's another solution but to update to leak .680 (because the .500 tends to get very hot when used). My PP's camera is very stable and super fast with its autofocus using the shutter trick, in this OS version. I know many people can confirm this.

It might appear trivial but did you check your lens cover to track any fingerprint, smuge or anything that could interfere ? You have to get really close, a magnifier might be your friend. I suffered similar problem once after I painted a wall; a tiny white paint spot was there. Removed it, solved.
If not ... well, HW default can happen. Sorry for you.

I always make sure my lens is sparkly clean.

The problem I'm seeing is that the focus square appears but doesn't move to focus on anything. The square turns green but no focusing was done. It's not just about the camera taking forever to focus on an object, the camera doesn't attempt to focus at all.

You really need to check this out. It's not a faulty camera, it's just not being used properly. I followed this guy's advice, no issues with focus since and lots of great pics! Check it out: http://forums.crackberry.com/showthread.php?t=1021429

Really appreciate your comment, but as you can see below I didn't have any problems taking beautiful pictures before this problem came up. I also saw that article and tried it if you read the few comments above, it didn't work for me. I'm really frustrated that I can't find a solution to this because I was so pleased with the camera and quality of pictures it produces.

Snippingclouds: As I said in my earlier post, I had exactly the same problem as you. Camera took perfect pictures and then, for no apparent reason, the focus stopped working. Like you, the focus square turned green but still didn't focus. Believe me, no amount of soft/hard resets, security wipes or software upgrades will work. Bring the phone back to where you got it and ask them to have it fixed or give you a new one. That's what I did and I'm really glad I did. You won't regret it.

Unfortunately, you're right. I took the plunge to load .680 but it didn't solve the problem. Gonna bring it to my telco to look for a solution. Thanks.

Is it a must to do a wipe of the leak before returning the device?

My camera focus is jerky after installing os 1154. Now, I think my phone camera is broken.
