Very strange problem. I have been using the Passport for two weeks and absolutely love it. But the strange thing is: I can see two to three bars on my phone and the MOMENT I hit the call button the bars drop to zero and then the phone says the call cannot be completed. Very very strange. Now my house has a weak signal however with my Z10 I had 2-3 bars but the behaviour I just described would not happen and my calls went through no problem. Is there such a thing as the Passport needing more signal juice or something???

    Any help would be appreciated.

try changing your settings first in mobile network, to lte/hspa/umts the one higher than that is for global, this might help. if not you could always try loading a new radio.

I use my passport on AT&T also and can't change my network settings. Luckily I'm not having that issue but I get LTE as my only choice (I'm not complaining, I'm grateful for the strong connection).

In my experience, the Passport has a stronger signal (better network / call connectivity and more bars) than my Z30, Q10 or Z10.

Are you using a nano sim from your carrier, or did you cut down a micro sim to use with the Passport?

Was your Z10 and Official AT&T release? If so, it wouldn't shock me that you might need to tweak some of the Passport settings. I think sometimes people forget that just because this Passport is "capable" of running on AT&T, it was designed as the North America edition and not specific to AT&T. AT&T has their own specific Passport variant which will probably be out late Jan to early Feb? This could have nothing to do with your issue, it's just something to think about.

I had the exact opposite experience...my Z10 (an AT&T locked device) would exhibit that exact same behavior in my home, where it the bars would drop when I hit the call button, and half the time the call would fail. Now with my unlocked Passport, this doesn't happen...the signal strength indicator stays normal and the calls always go through.

I just did a test. My AT&T bars are at. 2 (sitting on a plane at the gate!) and when I go to make a call it jumps to five bars

Yes cause your phone switches to hspa for phone calls.

AT&T does not make voice calls over LTE, that would make it HD Voice Calls, which AT&T does not offer, it only make voice calls over 4G - 3G or less.

    PassportSQW100-1/10.3.0.1418 on AT&T

Appreciate all the replies. Here is an update. My sim card is an original from AT&T. My phone was purchased from amazon unlocked of course. When I go to network settings it does not give me an option for lte vs hspa. How would I go about getting that added if possible? If att does not offer calls over lte this would be a serious issue. Not that I'm trading in my passport, let's not be silly.

Ok at work I have 3G & 4G and as someone said earlier when I have two bars and go to make a call it jumps up to all bars. At home it automatically shows lte and when I go to make a call it drops from three bars to one or none. Bummer dude.
