How do I turn the call volume up? The volume up button is DEAD as a doornail.
Is it completely dead or does it only change the volume if you repeatedly spam click the button?
If it works by spam-clicking it, then preform a Soft Reset:
- Press and hold both the Volume Up and Down buttons at the same time, you will know you pressed them at the same time when you see the screen shot taken message.
- Continue to hold the buttons down.
- You will see the screen shot message, the screen will turn off, the word Blackberry will appears on the screen and then the device loading animation will begin.
- Now release the buttons.
This is the equivalent of a Battery Pull for a non-removable battery BlackBerry device, and generally clears up any glitched caches, apps, or services.
It clears all caches, shuts off all apps and services, dumps running memory, and reboots the device. It does not delete any apps, files, or contacts.
Note: It is normal for the device to be sluggish and glitchy after a Soft Reset for up to five minutes after it has booted up, as it is rebuilding caches and restarting background apps and services. It is best to just let it sit for five minutes and then see if the issue has been resolved.
If the button it truly dead, then the switch has most likely broke or failed on the hardware side, seek warranty or a repair service.
Thanks. No, it's truly dead. I couldn't get the soft reset, because of the dead button. Then I backed everything up with Link, and reinstalled the software, i.e. did a factory reset. Button is dead! My IT department gave me a new Passport and I restored everything via Link from the backup. I must say, I am very impressed, it went without a hitch and all my setting were back. All I had to do is sideload Snap and install a few apps. Piece of cake.
It is strange, though, that there is no software possibility to adjust the call volume.
I already tried the following without success :
- reinstalled os version: 10.3.2.2639
- replaced middle frame
It must be a hardware problem ... motherboard.
Does anybody knows where I can find a new motherboard for the Blackberry Passport ??
In settings under Main Volume -make sure music shortcuts is off-otherwise up volume and lower volume buttons do nothing when pressed

That is not correct. The volume buttons work just fine when that setting in on.
Volume button Down works.
Volume button Up still doesn't.
Therefor making a printscreen doesn't work.
thanks for helping me find a solution for this problem
Mine is exactly the same. Not happy..

Try pressing on the back of the phone just beside the volume buttons and at the same time hit the volume up. That might work for you..... also if the phone is a bit twisted twist it back..

it doesn't work
Unfortunately, the main board, aka motherboard, IS your Passport.
It is the one part in your device that carries your IMEI / Device PIN.
By changing that you are basically changing to another device, hence you might just as well get a replacement or new Passport.
Almost all of the parts sellers that have "mainboards" will have ones that are either damaged/blown or have had the core system deactivated / black listed at the hardware level, as in they are circuit boards meant just for parts for one to remove bits and pieces from to try and fix another device. It will certainly not be a working main board, ready to drop into your device.
If your volume switch is truly dead, hardware wise, and you can't get a warranty replacement or find someone with the skill and tools to try and fix it, you may just as well look for another device.
