I am bummed. I will have had my Passport five months tomorrow, and I was bragging to my wife that it has never crashed, not once, and today it did.
Wasn't even doing anything except listening to the built-in music player.

Some use passport as their communication workhorse and theirs survive for a couple of years. Maybe yours was too slacked ☺.

10.3 was never made for the older devices I feel
Don't know about the Passport
But it was never optimized for the older phones released in <10.2.1 era

My Passport SE crashed / hung on the 2nd day after I got it. The OS was updated on the first day, I let it settle in over night. On the second day, after some email configuration and listening to music, it crashed / hung on the lock screen...with no password prompt for me to type my password.

However, it seems to be all good after that...I'm currently on the second week with it.

Nothing so bad as that. I was listening to music and suddenly the device went silent. I picked it up and the screen was black. When I hit the power button to unlock it, it went straight to the bootup screen. When it was done booting, all was fine. It is just the first time that it froze or spontaneously rebooted since I got it.

The problem is they released phones like the Leap with the same internals as the Z10 so they must have optimised it to some extent, either way 10.3 is appalling performance wise.
I've seen threads with passport users and Classic users (both 10.3 and 10.3.1 from the start respectively) complaining about the performance.

Well my dad uses a classic and the performance isn't optimized a lot really
Maybe just a little
My Z30 on the other hand is terrible with some things (Android apps, Call lag etc)
I'll have to reload the OS soon

My power button gets pressed all the time when wearing tighter fitting jeans. When I put my shoes on usually. Could this be a culprit?

I don't think so. The unit was laying on my desk when the music stopped. It is conceivable that I did a long-press on the power button when I picked it up, but even so that would not explain why the music stopped in the first place.

On SE Since May. I had one warm up a few days ago but never a crash. Towers can screw with phone too esp when traveling so that's a non issue.

That boot up randomly happens to me once in a blue moon. It's never under any intensive use when it happens either.

It's as if the phone is says "I need to restart. Screw it, I'm doing it now".
