    Hello All,

I'm a phone-o-phile and have gone through 6 phones in the last 6 months. I buy em for a good price, use em for a bit and then sell them on Craigslist.

Got a pretty good deal ($150) on a sealed OG passport (this will be the 4th time buying the Passport over the last 2 years!). It is just so damn unique and it keeps calling me back - then I keep selling it when I'm defeated and know it's too big for my pockets :^)

    So....anyway.
Reason for my post is, Should I keep the original stock OS or update it? I want to avoid the dreaded "Wi-Fi ONLY" bug.

    Any insight would be great.
    Thanks

"WiFi only" bug affects all versions. Doesn't matter whether you update or not.

Also known as "emergency calls only" bug. Passport can't lock on to any signal/network, and becomes a wifi only device. Several threads here regarding that issue.

I thought that this was a hardware defect.

It is. And much like an Xbox "red ring of death", it will affect a lot of PPs sooner or later.

And yet PassPort die-hards are/were quick to bash the KEYone/KEY2's (TCL's) build quality as if the "mighty" Passport didn't have its own fair share of issues also

I'm not sure anyone ever said that. At least when the PP breaks I can replace it for $100.

Maybe the overall build quality is better in the PP. Like the materials and components like speakers, microphone, antennas, etc.

You can replace it for 100$ because it's a now 4 year old phone. Same can be said for many things

Think we're entering phase where price is creeping up due to scarcity and the WiFi only defect will be prevalent on more of the remaining sold devices. Used devices are showing $150-250 on Amazon now. Grab a spare while you can if that’s important to you.

I haven't seen prices firm up except the SE and red PP's. Maybe you're right but I might never find out. I have too many BB10 phones already. And I can't get Onenote to work on any of them now except my daily driver PP.

Update it to the latest software. There's no advantage to staying on earlier versions of BB10. Since 10.3 came out four years ago, the updates have been minimal so you may as well go with the latest.

First, the KEY devices have to sell well enough. Then, we'll see if TCL wants to bother with a riskier form factor.

The device could be blocked by its original user. Or simply delete it, download again.
