Apologies for jumping into this thread, but I noticed that a couple of people were mentioning the Amazon deal to buy the Passport outright.

I'm just planning my move from my current Samsung Galaxy S4 and going back to BlackBerry with buying the Passport SIM-free from Amazon. I'm usually on O2 and was wondering about the updates and whether they still needed to be approved by O2 themselves. I'm just a bit worried because O2 are only selling the Classic, rather than the Passport and I like the official software updates.

Updates are fine on all carriers in Europe. O2 are fairly timely.

Well folks, my Z10 is up for renewal, and I'm considering the passport. My Z10 has been serviceable for the past 18 months, besides the often spoken about lack of apps etc etc.

Basically my requirements are predominantly email and Web access - and I've yet to find a phone I like as much as my BlackBerry for handling mails...

That said where I stay I cannot find a passport to see or play with. Is it genuinely worth getting or as a casual but frequent user should I be thinking of other options?

With the passport you are going forward not backwards and it certainly is a truly amazing handset.

Any BlackBerry is great but the passport has that something unique and awesome about it.

Hi, like Tim 11 I am thinking of getting the Passport, but from CPW as O2 don't sell it, and I have spoken to O2 and they have told me that they will support any BlackBerry phone that is on his network.

CPW �429 unlocked, Amazon �391. I bought unlocked from Amazon and got a sim only deal from Tesco. I got a deal that suits me. Have had a Q10 from cpw and had no issues getting updates. Shop around there are good deals to be had out there. Either way the Passport is a great phone you won't regret buying. I haven't.

Got mine sim free from expansys. Was on Three, and at renewal moved 'down' to a sim only contract. Couple hundred mins (I don't make calls), unlimited texts, unlimited data and free 4g as well for �15pm

just popped into EE to check one out, i was surprised to see they have stopped selling BB! i was quiet disappointed to see BB being dropped

so decided to purchase one outright from amazon... should arrive tomorrow.

EE do still sell BlackBerry devices (including the Passport), but only via their business contracts - they've only stopped selling BlackBerry devices through their consumer channel

Got my Passport through Vodafone in November having had a Z10 and then the Z30. Definitely the right decision. The only concern I had was that I wasn't using the phone for business, only personal use. Needn't have worried, phone is superb for any kind of use. Handles all communications quickly and efficiently. And never have to worry about the battery letting me down during the day

I'm on O2, 28 pounds a month including the phone payment. The phone was supplied unlocked. If you're paying the same per month and you are on the same network as me, but you get 4Gb extra data, then I would guess that your contract is sim only and you made other arrangements to procure your phone. For me, there is no difference between 1Gb and 100Gb as I only use 350Mb per month due to being on wifi all the time.

Nope not at all, just a simple upgrade maybe due to the time you upgraded I got mine 5th Feb, shopped round for deals on tariffs before making the plunge I was on your sim only deal in 2012 paying �20 p/m then upgraded to the Z10 in 2013 on Feb with the same deal as you but was paying �38 p/m. It's only now that I had a data jump for same price. If I was you ill check simplicity plans right now some serious deals for �20 p/m, imo you should be only paying �12-15 p/m for what u get. Just wanted to post awareness towards you mate

Like I said, 28 per month all in is excellent for the passport over 2 years. Let's say my tariff for the sake of argument is about 16 per month and the handset is 12 (I'm not sure how they work it out exactly) then over 24 months it works out to �288 + �60 that I paid upfront = �348 for the passport which I'm sure that you agree is cheaper than anywhere else. At the time, the passport retailed for �529.

28/month is not bad at all, I pay 29 for the Z10 (Vodafone: Unlimited, Unlimited and 1GB). At the time that was a very good deal with 3 months unlimited data and 120 cashback from quidco.

My battery life improved after the first week or so.... also, an overnight charge seems to give me much more battery life, than a 2-hour charge (after which the phone also states battery is at 100%)

Sorry, I am in the UK and have just checked to find none of the MSN apps are available.

This makes me think Microsoft have limited the apps to only Kindle or Amazon devices.

You could try using euronews which is very good and also the guardian app especially if your in the UK or Europe. As for the battery life it can take a few weeks or more for it to settle which is normal. So just give it time.

Also remember that all phones will zap battery life if you constantly have wifi on and are running any on active apps whether headless or not. That is with any phone.

What do you mean by background bits and pieces.

Anyway hope you really start to enjoy you blackberry experience.

Also, Location Services make a huge difference to my battery life - if I turn Location Services OFF I can just about eke out 2 and a half days of usage (eg Monday morning to Wednesday evening) though I'll be getting battery warnings throughout the final half day....

Yes your deal might be cheaper overall, however your not getting the best deal for your money imo, hence why I viewed my opinion to the matter , the best way to find out if your getting a great deal or not is to find the sim only option over the desired contract length then add the handset (retail price). I say retail price because savings on price is subjective to location, availability etc

Plan #1- unl mins, unl texts, 5GB data

Sim only + handset: (�24 x 24) + �529 = �1105

24 month Contact : (�38 x 24) = �912

Plan #2- unl mins, unl texts, 1GB data

Sim only + handset: (�19 x 24) + �529 = �985

24 month Contract: (�28 x 24) = �672

Now the real work starts, we find out the actual service charge by subtracting the handset from the 24mn plans;

Plan #1

672 - 529 = 146

Plan #2

912 - 529 = 383

Note: the only difference between our plans is the monthly payments and data we get with it, now ill move on to the final part, we can see that our data is set in a ratio of 1:5 or 5:1 (every each to their own) and we also know that call time (minutes) + texts are pretty such free these days due to VoIP and alt messaging services like BBM, WhatsApp etc

So �383� 5GB = �76.6 (service charge) u should be paying for 1GB not �146 saving �69.4

So how much p/m should you REALLY be paying for, let's see shall we?

529 + 76.6 = 605.6 (24mn) or 25.233r(p/m)

Okay albeit a small saving of �2 n a bit p/m but �69.4 over two years is and this is my thought process when I was shopping for my next phone contract with BlackBerry passport in mind

I got my Passport through mobilephonesdirect.com, as an upgrade from my Z10, with EE. It's honestly the best phone I've ever had, and as you've already got experience with the 10 operating software, you will easily get to know the phone's capabilities and features. I had never held one either, but the online video demos were enough to tempt me and I'm so pleased with it. It's also worth knowing that both CPW & MPD have more plan options available over the phone than those shown online. Mine is 2GB data with unlimited calls & texts for �30.99 per month. Good luck

Your maths is flawed, you haven't provided one example of how I could get a better deal. The sim only + full handset cost is more than I'm paying. Yes, you showed that I'm paying more per Gb of data than you, but that's par for the course with everything from ketchup to toilet paper; the more you buy, the cheaper the unit price. As I said, I don't require more than 1Gb. I've looked and what I'm paying was at the time way cheaper than any other plan. �672 + �60 upfront = �732. �732 - �529 = �203. �203�24 = �8.46 per month for my unlimited texts, unlimited calls and 1Gb data. Can you beat that?

Or, if you want to approach it from the other angle, 24 x �19 = �456. �732 - �456 = �276 for the passport. Beats �529 or any other cash price for that matter.

If you can find a cheaper deal for my tariff, please show me because I haven't seen one.
