At the end of the day, to a carrier a phone is a phone. They make most of their money selling service contracts and, in order to accomplish that, their job is merely to stock devices customers like. AT&T has no good reason to care if Blackberry/Android/iOS/Windows Phone flourishes or fails. It's Blackberry's responsibility to sell Blackberry phones.02-22-15 09:55 AMLike 0 - I don't think the AT&T websites are all that reliable. Yesterday it said that only the Classic was available at my nearest store and not the Passport. I went down top lay with the Classic and lo and behold the Passport was there too. At least it was on display. Perhaps it meant that they didn't have any stock to sell.02-22-15 10:06 AMLike 0
- The AT&T store in Colorado that I got mine at only had one and I was able to get it. They also had 2 classics and that was it. While I was there a few people came in looking for the classic but I didn't hear anything about the passport. I love mine. Thankful I was able to get it the first day.02-22-15 10:09 AMLike 0
- Just to add... I am not seeing the Passport sold out online and verified with AT&T that I could order and will receive in 1-2 days. Unless more devices were added? Seems quick for more inventory to come in. Are those that said it sold out online still seeing this?
The Passport was also added to another local store. So far this is going good IMO. Hope that the demand is truly there to get it in all corporate stores!
Posted via CB1002-22-15 10:12 AMLike 0 - You guys are crazy. This is the perfect launch. The Classic is obviously going to be the easier sell simply because of form factor and enterprise. As for the Passport, AT&T has their redesign which would require them to order a minimum amount so it is profitable for BlackBerry.
The fact that the Passport is even in stores at all is excellent. Start off slow in select markets to get a grip on demand. It also seems like AT&T is sold out online. Remember that the Passport is completely new and unconventional. I'm sure AT&T ordered the minimum, but having demos in stores next to the Classic is very promising if the Passport sales pick up.
I'm hoping sales are far exceeding AT&T estimates and if that is the case you will see more stores on board and possibly some promo. The rollout is going well... I am glad that many stores have demos and the online sellout is a good sign. Hopefully they sellout in stores as well. The only issue I see at the moment is lack of accessories for this model. The more sold, the more accessories will come.
Also, while some are saying the Passport has been out for months, most in the US don't know this and don't care. Specs exceed most devices. This is exactly how this type of device should be launched, with caution. We all know the initial sales the first day were great, but I think AT&T seems behind both devices with the Classic almost everywhere and the Passport demand being tested.
The Passport is not your normal slab, it is an oddball out, but I believe AT&T will be pleasantly surprised with sales and will ramp up production if the demand is there. The specs are plenty enough on the Passport to keep it relevant for a while as this is going on. I'd say that this launch is a success and could lead to greater things. AT&T has to test demand.
I honestly expected online sales only. Hoping every freakin store sells out on the Passport this weekend showing AT&T the potential for this device! I applaud Chen and AT&T also for having a case and screen protectors knowing their device is "special". The next few weeks should be interesting and if we see a white AT&T Passport eventually show up we'll know that sales are going pretty well.
At this point we'll see how much stock gets replenished and if more stores get the device. Very satisfied with the launch!

Could be a coincidence but maybe not. Helps control inventory and the dire hope is that it creates demand and keeps the price up. Only time will tell. I read somewhere that the phones were going to reach stores in the US over a few weeks from the start date but I can't find where I read it.02-22-15 01:55 PMLike 0
- Not sure if this has been said, but it is available on line Att for business customers. I logged in to buy as a small business, which I am, and it appears to be available. I did everything but check out (I'm not pulling the trigger for a few months yet).
Posted via CB1002-22-15 02:20 PMLike 0 - Absolutely. This is just as much John Chen's fault as it is AT&T's. How do you let a company in a failing market get an EXCLUSIVE contract, bring the product to market 5 months late and then not make sure there's enough supply? Sorry, but anything good that Chen has done until now is out the window.
Chen has completely botched BlackBerry's last chance for survival.
Posted via CB1002-22-15 02:34 PMLike 0 - I can say that none of the stores around me had any in stock, even on Friday morning. The website said that there were no stores within a 50 mile radius stocking it. Maybe they'll get a shipment soon.

- Some here are backing their "market analysis" on a few stores they visited or on online research. This isn't representative at all.
The US is a very big market and launch has just been a couple of days ago. I can understand that BlackBerry, as well as AT&T are taking a conservative approach here and try to figure out the real demand for the device. In the current position of BlackBerry in the US you can not just flood the market with devices, risking to overstock.
For anyone here who hasn't been in touch with operations management, two of the seven kinds of waste are overproduction and inventory.

- Just a follow up, checked with one of the major stores in my area today and they do have Classic but says 2 weeks on the Passport but they are going to get it. He sounded pretty firm and matter of fact about it so that's good.02-22-15 03:57 PMLike 0

Remember back when we first saw the device... that is where the US is. The Passport has not been out for 5 months here. It's been out for a few days. If demand is there, more will come to more stores. Hope that the ones in stock sellout. The two stores by me have not sold out of their inventory as of yet which is a disappointment as I'm sure they probably only have a few. Will check again later. AT&T has a lot of stores and in no way should they have supplied the Passport to all in unnecessary amounts.
The fact that the stores carrying both have working models of them on display is huge. As stated, demand has to be established first! What we have so far shows that AT&T is actually supporting both the Passport and Classic.

Went to the local "consumer" store and was told that they did not have either the Passport or Classic in stock. If I wanted to order a Passport, it would take about 2 weeks. As I was leaving, an associate pulled me aside and told me to go to the store in my local mall as it is a "corporate" store. They had both in stock and a Passport on display. When I went in around 7:45pm, I was the first Passport to be activated!world traveler and former ceo likes this.02-22-15 05:14 PMLike 1
- Went to three AT&T stores in the Dallas metroplex. I was told that each store received 2 Passpoetrs and 2 Classics at launch. What a shame. I had to demo my own personal Passport to people in the store asking me about it cause the reps were telling me it's too late for BlackBerry to come back and they were out of business. Where is the BlackBerry marketing?

- Well, finally I found what really happened: there were no sold out in this part of California (Bay area) actually there was no sell at all. There was no inventory at all at the stores.
I'm very disappointed!!!!

- Didn't blackberry have to write off almost a billion dollars in losses on unsold Z10 inventory? Not getting stuck with old inventory is a very important part of their rebound strategy.02-22-15 09:44 PMLike 3

I think everyone is being conservative with BlackBerry inventory at this point.... And I don't really think that one fan here or one fan there make much of a difference at this point. It come down to how many big orders are AT&T and eventually Verizon going to get from Enterprise.Lawmen23 likes this.02-23-15 07:13 AMLike 1
