From what I saw in the last sneak peek Video it seems that the BlackBerry Passport will finally carry an AMOLED screen ! The dark on the video seems to be deeper! This will be definitely a great news if it is confirmed

To me it just seem more quality LCD screen. If you take a look at the comparison with Z10 when both screens are turned off you will see how Z10 has a purple hue to it while Passport is deep black. That's how high end Xperia LCD displays look like when turned off.

You cannot tell anything about the hardware.
This device even does not have the silver stripe on the back (around the camera).
This means this is one of the first pre-release models.
So much things can still change (or maybe already have changed in the newer model).

When I had a Z10 I couldn't imagine carrying an AMOLED screen, the colors were so unreal but when I switched to it, I wasn't disappointed at all. It took me 2 or 3 days to deal with but since I'm formated lol. I even increased my TV color because it seems very poor and I didn't imagine how did I leave with such poor color for years!
Now I appreciate the deeper black of the AMOLED screen, nothing to do with the OLED of the Q10. I will be sad if the Passport will rock an LCD but I will love it tho

That'll keep some from buying. Seems to be a lot of complaints about the Z30's screen around here because it's amoled , I have no issue with my screen so I guess I'm not that picky.

Sorry bout your luck OP. But you hopes for an AMOLED Passport will be shattered upon launch. The overwhelming majority of successfully selling flagships use IPS LCD.

More like that'll determine whether The Passport will be a success (IPS LCD) or failure (AMOLED).

Eink displays have the best battery life! Maybe you want BlackBerry to make a device with that type of tech for you.

Better battery life does not equal better experience.

I just hope the brightness will be good if it's a AMOLED. That's the only downside of my Z30. I just want my phone on 100% brightness, but the auto dim is in the way.

Take the Q10's screen and compare it to the Z10's. The Z10's screen is so might sharper.

It's not amoled... it's been confirmed to be LCD because of the light theme used throughout the Passport.

Oh God, I'm glad they got rid of these AMOLED screens like the Q10, they're horrible, I don't like to sacrifice quality over battery life, should've chosen the z10 or q5.

It's LCD. It would be even darker and the theme would be black at the shot where you see texting on the Passport.

AMOLED screens can be pretty bright, just take a look at some of Samsung's units out there. Right now I am typing this on a Lumia 1020 which also sports a SuperAMOLED display and this one is waaay brighter compared to the Q10. So it is quite possible to build brighter screens with this technology. I always prefered OLED over LCD, however seeing these screen burn-ins (or rather burn-outs) makes me prefer LCD again. As long as they can't fix this issue, this won't change.

Btw. I am also pretty sure the Passport will sport a LCD screen.

Just for those of you who keep saying amoled is better for battery life. Only true with darker colors. With brighter colors it actually consumes more. Unless the screens have become much more efficient lately and I just never heard about it.

    AFAIK
    Amoled =/= better battery life
