i recently got a Passport, everything is working great. able to install third-party apps from android play market and amazon app store,

but the native blackberry apps (maps, blackberry world, bbm) is not working
it also wont let me fully set up an email account (gmail and yahoo)
    - the gmail account is there, contacts is synced. but nothing else

p.s. i live in Uzbekistan, and i have heard that bbm is disabled.. but that shouldn't stop me from setting up a simple email account?.. right?

That's strange... did you set up the accounts manually or through the automatic method where you just first enter your email address?

I wonder if you setup a VPN on your phone if that would bypass and allow you to use bbm?

Are you still on a "Blackberry Internet Service" data plan? BIS plans are still pretty common in areas with legacy BB devices are used. On those devices BIS is used for those services.

With the Passport you can use a regular 2G/3G/4G data plan like any other Android or iOS device. Even BBM on devices newer than the Z10 use the a regular data plan for messaging, not a BIS connection.

you guys thanks for all the replies,

apparently it was country problem (it doesn't allow any info to come in or out to the BlackBerry Servers)

fixed it by taking it to a dude (does a lot of phone unlocking) that basically skips the BlackBerry ID setup altogether.

down side - no BBM, BlackBerry App World
bright side - everything else works
