As you are probably aware, lithium batteries have a certain amount of charging cycles before they are unusable. Essentially, they are degrading every time you charge them.

Many of us here love our devices, and the SE is something special. However, I cannot find a replacement battery (or keyboard) anywhere.

I don't want key-one owners to chime in. I don't use social media, I'm happy that I have a phone that is one step-up from a feature phone and I want to preserve it.

This thread is those of us that are passionate Passport owners and don't want it derailed with another Android VS BB10 debate.

If you go on ebay, you'll find replacement batteries and keyboards compatible for the SQW100-1;SQW100-2 & SQW100-3 - but not the the SE (SQW100-4).

I can't see why they wouldn't be. It is just peculiar that the replacement batteries on ebay (or anywhere else). Doesn't specifically state that they are compatible for the hardware revision.

Only one way to find out is to grab a T5 screwdriver, purchase a battery on ebay that's compatible with the previous revisions and swap em' out.

I'm fairly certain that the Passport Battery is the same for both versions. Hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Indeed. It would be great for us all if we knew for certainty.

In theory, you would assume that all revisions of the BlackBerry Passport would have the same internal hardware. It would make sense for them, economically, to do this. Yes, the SE variant has a different keyboard and curved edges, but it isn't a completely different animal.

I searched a little bit in this forum and I found out that the changes of the OG and SE is only outside and relocating of the antenna. Internal is in both devices the same. So I am more than pretty sure that you can take every replacement battery which is good for the OG as for the SE.

What was the production date for that "new" phone? Replacement batteries most likely won't be new either. Unfortunate reality.

The Passport hasn't been in production for years. When yours was built really doesn't matter. When the replacement battery was produced would have to be answered by the seller. I replaced a Priv battery for a friend recently. Purchased from a reputable seller, but assumed correctly that it was 2 years old. Limited volume phones currently active in extremely small quantities, battery manufacturers simply have no reason to keep fresh productions runs for. Simple law of supply and demand.

Not necessarily true. I have seen factories in China that are producing batteries for ALL types of older devices including Z10, Q10 etc. Most of these facilities are in the Shenzhen area. There are websites with replacement batteries that are relatively new. The quality may be questionable but you can get a new battery. This company is one of many that sells to wholesalers such as etradesupply : About Us-SUNWODA Electronics Co., Ltd.

No, I don't. Ever seen a Passport battery that looked like this: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/New-...ceBeautifyAB=0 .

Weird huh? If you check out the cases of a lot of these after markets you won't see a production date on them - for example: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Came...ceBeautifyAB=0

I've never had to get one (still on my original almost 4 years now) but I did get a Z10 battery a while back and it's fine (maybe over a year ago now). I didn't notice any difference from the original.

The second link shows a date of 2013, but that's not to say the ones shipping now are from then.

I've been fortunate most of the time with replacements. Even those a couple years old performed fine, because they were stored properly at about 50%. I did swap the battery in my Z Force recently though, and the one I received was a year old. Shouldn't have been an issue, but it arrived at 0%, and while with repeated drains/charges it's improving, I may have to get it swapped.

As you said, there are a lot of suspect manufacturers out there. The older these phones get, the less likely even a battery from the best of companies will provide like new performance. Fortunately with the Passport, the surgery isn't terribly difficult.
