I have my BlackBerry Passport locked with a password. While entering the password, when I came to using the numbers, this screen showed up which as you can see have the letters added to each button on the upper corner. I got no clue what triggered this screen to show up and whether it can be used for full touch screen entry of both numbers and letters. Any clue?

Any clue if the letters on the numerical on-screen keyboard can be used to type letters?

When you press the @123 above the OP keys this activates the numerical keys, just press the Blue Highlighted down key which has replaced the @123 on the touch screen and will revert back.

I think there was a thread that has the shortcuts for Passport keyboard.

Keeping @123 button pressed for a few seconds can lock the symbols and you can access them using your physical keyboard. Very hand when typing characters and numbers quickly.

No you can not use the VKB to type the letters.
After you tap @123 in the bottom right corner is the down arrow.
If you tap and hold on that down arrow until the blue bar appears, than the letters appear on the VKB.
But that is only telling you what corresponding letter goes with the icon or number in the VKB.

So in short, that option allows you to use the PKB to input the icons shown in the VKB.
