What's the typical turn around for timing of a device to go through the FCC, be announced and hit the markets for sale?

White Z30STA100-5/10.2.1.1925 = heaven.

It still has to get through carrier testing. This is probably why it is launching first in Europe and then in the US. The U.S takes more time.

There is no 'typical' time really.

Good point. The us carriers suck and are super slow. Although I intend to buy it directly from BlackBerry or unlocked, not from a carrier.

I want to get one also probably in the new year to replace my z 10. My only concern is that I thought I read an article that the Passport will have limited apps, not that I use alot of them anyway. I do understand its more for Enterprise users though. Is this device not able to use all Blackberry World and Amazon apps.?? I hope the article was wrong. I thing it bwas a Seeking Alpha article and it also says its because of 16:9 ratio- I'm not tech savvy with that so I don't quite understand what that means.

Note there is another model, RGY181LW. It also supports other bands that are not operational in North America: gsm/gprs/edge 900/1800; umts/hspa bands viii/i and LTE bands 1,3,8,20; and LTE band 7 that works only in Canada.

It is only one device. It uses all the bands - both sets posted - but the FCC only cares about the ones used in the US.

That's a lot of bands in one device, including LTE bands 13 and 17! Which means phone will work* on both AT&T and Verizon. Hot damn.

*Phone seems to be lacking Verizon's CDMA bands, which means no voice calling unless one's in a voLTE (test) market.

Oh yeah...I saw all that. I'm just surprised at seeing LTE bands 13 and 17 in the same device. BlackBerry has never done that, and I would have never pegged them to do that as it's somewhat of a FU to Verizon.

Because band 13 essentially means this device can be taken to Verizon, and even if they never carry it, they will have to accept it on their network due to open network rules that govern 700c spectrum. Like I said previously, voice coverage may not be there initially, but if you're in a voLTE market, or just want to use this as a data-only device, Verizon has to let you.

No typical time but the Samsung S5 got their USA FCC certs in March of this year and launched the next month.

No, those are WCDMA bands, which, very simplistically is a standard for UMTS, which is 3G/HSPA+ on the GSM side.

Hell, I don't think I've even heard of b13 phones without Verizon CDMA. I know the Nexus 7 has b13 and no CDMA, but that's a tablet which would require a tablet SIM. So how will this even work?

Interesting assertion in there, but completely off the mark. They're just testing/doing initial deployments of voLTE, so voice is still largely off of the CDMA network. Probably will be for the next 2-5 years, I would think.
