    Hey!

So, m1kr0 asked if I could throw together some renderings showing the difference in screen size.

Check out the pictures below, overlapping screens to show you how much bigger it is than your current phone. I've also compared it to the Classic.

These are to scale, and accurate.

    Thanks!

Does the Z10 display in landscape fit completely across (possibly letterboxed) the passport display?

    Always very instructive thread!
Thanks now i have a more neat idea of what sort of "leap of width" it will be from my Q10!

What most people don't realize is how clever this actually is. The 1:1 aspect ratio on the Passport allows for a letterboxed 1080 display either way. All Android apps in 16:9 will run letterboxed in either orientation with black bars top and bottom, BUT the visible screen will be almost the SAME size as the Z10 in landscape mode.
It will remain full high definition all the way. I'm getting one, no question. (I hope I can still type on a physical keyboard after almost 18 months).

Exactly the reason I'm so intrigued by the Passport! Whereas a traditional 1:1 display on the Q devices right now are too claustrophobic.

If it can indeed run 16:9 apps like this, I will strongly consider buying one.

The Passport would be ideal for me coming from a Z10 because the increased width is great for websites with tiny text, and I will not lose that much height in the process.

Agreed. I'm hoping to be able to buy from Shop BlackBerry ASAP after launch. Same with Passport.

I was more interested in the landscape orientation comparisons, so I did this thread:

which includes using a webtool to visually see the differences.

Since you're comparing a rectangle to a square, there is no "landscape" comparison. The same differences apply whether in portrait comparison to landscape.

    Hopefully that makes sense.

No it does not...you're the second person to make this mistake. The main resolution of a 1080p display is 1920, not 1080. To properly display 1080p or for that matter 720p, content would have to be scaled to 1440x810 and letter boxed or alternatively all Android apps would have to display in landscape mode which would allow the full screen to be utilized without letter boxing.

I think that people are usually concerned that having a square screen would limit them from having the luxury of landscape mode to view their media. Making a comparison of the other devices in landscape mode versus the Passport's square screen shows that:

    1. From a Z30 to the Passport, quite a bit of that extra landscape space would be missing. People desiring a large landscape view would be better off with the Z30.
    2. From a Z10 to the Passport, not much would be missed. The media would be just a tad smaller.
    3. From an iPhone 5 to the Passport, even less would be missed than from the Z10. Again, media would just be a tad smaller.
    4. From an iPhone 4 to the Passport, nothing would be missed. The Passport's screen engulfs the iPhone 4's screen.

In general, the Passport would be worthy media consumption device. The extra letterboxing could be used for subtitles, notifications, media controls, etc.
