I'm extremely disappointed. I was really looking forward to getting my BB Passport when my upgrade renewal was up, which is now, but I have since discovered that the top two mobile service providers, MTN and Vodacom (my provider), have discontinued the BB Passport. It is no longer available to buy from them. It is available through CellC but only while stocks last and then it will also be discontinued. Is it worth buying a phone that is being discontinued? I have a Q10 and I feel like getting a Leap or a Classic is a downgrade and my heart is simply not into any of those options. Now I will be forced to buy a different brand. I'm just not happy.

Buy your Passport from Amazon. From your carrier's perspective, it's the same as any other BB10 phone in terms of network support. It has all the bands too. No worries.

Not sold by your carrier doesn't mean it's discontinued globally. Buy it unlocked from shopbb or Amazon. If that's an option.

Carrier support is dwindling for BlackBerry... even in once prime markets. When sales are 1 BlackBerry for ever 5,000 smartphones, it is easy to see why some will not bother with BlackBerry, especially with a device that might not fit the local market.

Which is why other options like Amazon, B&H and ShopBlackBerry are going to be very important to the few that a committed to the "platform".

I feel exactly like you. I waited in anticipation to upgrade my Q10 to a Passport, and only just yesterday found out that it has been discontinued. I am at a loss, unsure what phone to choose now.

I'm getting a new Passport at the end of this month from Takealot, have no option but to get it cash. R5999. Which works out to $444,41 including taxes and delivery within 2 days.

since my heart was set on the Passport and no other phone appealed to me, I changed my provider to CellC and got the phone from CellC. I looked at every type of phone, tested them, went to the different shops over this past and still did not find a phone I liked. I am extremely happy I got the Passport even though I had to change service providers.
