Hi, I bought a BlackBerry External Battery Charger and Genuine 2100mAh BlackBerry Battery for my old BlackBerry Q10....I thought the micro usb charging thing would work on my Passport if I needed it . It does not seem to work....all I get is an exclamation mark in the battery icon. Is there any way that I can get this working?

I don't think it's powerful enough to charge the battery in the Passport.

You need min of 1.3Amp, passport loves 1.8A.

How much power does the usb thing give out? The battery is a 2100mAh , so should the usb output not be the same as the battery is powering it?

    I believe it's a little bit below 500mA.

I know this because on my old laptop the max output to my Z10 was 500mA(generic USB 2.0 standard) and it never had good battery life when I charged it off my laptop. It would also occasionally show that it wasn't getting enough power to charge when I had too many devices connected while it was on battery. Likely this is the same situation (< 500mA).

On my laptop now (USB 3.0), it seems to be much higher and is enough to charge my Passport with a better charge it seems than even the included 1.3A adapter it came with. Honestly I couldn't tell you what the new standard is.

Long story short, unless you've got a way to boost the output of the Q10 battery pack, you're SOL with that I believe. Was the same way with my Z10 battery pack :P

If you really need mobile power badly for a recharge, take a look around online or in the CB shop and there should be chargers that output 1.5A+ (I think I saw a 2A).
