    I've tried but can't seem to open Google play on the kindle which is a prerequisite.

    I don't think you'll have access to the Play Store on a stock Fire device.

    Depending on which kindle fire you have it may not work. Anything running Fire OS 3 is a forked android 4.2.2.
    The Fire HDX second gen and HD third gen run on OS 4 which is a forked android 4.4.2 which should work. Anything before that won't work.

    Only way to get Google play on the kindle fire is to root it and load the Google services.
    Much easier to download the apk from Google play through evozi and load it onto the tablet.
