In any case I understand that there is going to be a major update of BBM this summer.

This new update is supposed to include :
    1. Having phone number registration as an option for people on BBM. This will then help you to discover your contacts using BBM & indicate to you that they are also having BBM as well.

    2. If they still allow us to communicate with contacts on our phone book who has BBM without adding them first then BBM will become just as convenient as WhatsApp.

Blackberry has not released more information of this new update yet. We shall see if this is going to be a hit or a miss. Chances are it's going to be a miss or a very very difficult hit.

Buying a device for a single app, sounds kind of silly doesn't it?
It does sound silly but that was the same reason why I've gone into BlackBerry in the first place: because of BBM, in the time where you only need that or SMS, email, to stay in touch.

Only if you get ALL the other people who use it with you to switch. Good luck with that. Perhaps you can get a decent productivity device to help you out
He means alternatives like Disa. Clumsy but functional.

No way! It's just an app. Even if everybody uses it. I am actually waiting for that day it wont function on BlackBerry anymore so I can grab me a used passport for less lol

But yet, here we are. Unless another solution is to have all of your contacts download an app to keep in contact with you, which is just as silly I would say?

LOL as if. I'll throw my phone into the trash where it belongs and I'll get a flagship Android when complete support for WhatsApp dies.

No, I will dump this phone and grab something else with more life and support in it; either Android or an i-phone.

No, you should move on with android or ios and use a single device. Even BlackBerry them self have already moved on by killing the classic and.... let me quote from the news I just read. In an effort to continue to innovate, BlackBerry has decided to update its available lineup with only "state of the art devices".

And os10 device is not state of the art device. They are more like an art piece device.

Sold my passport because of this , got myself a Priv, personally it's not as good as my passport , but it has everything and more . It is what it is.

I'd suggest getting a new device any way since BlackBerry 10 devices aren't produced anymore and api keys for new apps exist no more as well as no real system support from blackberry themselves .

    Just my 5 cents

All I know is that no mobile device on the market has had a great of a keyboard as the Passport, and given the present trend, none will be produced, let alone surpassed, in the near future. Anyone who values productivity and a physical keyboard has everything to gain from BB10, and the Passport in specific. It's sad that no Android phone can match BlackBerry build quality...

Yes I'll change phones, I can live without a good facebook app and a good gps but not a crippled WhatsApp, by that time the priv will be dirt cheap and the other BlackBerry offerings running Android should be out. I will miss the bb10 goodies.

It really sucks that Blackberry will not give us the option to install Android on our passports even when a lot of mainstream and important app developers have long abandoned BB10...
