Never had an issue with the Native Maps. When I'm out of town I use it all the time.

Native app has sent me the wrong way a few times and does not appear to account for traffic, even when you're stuck on "red" roads.

When in North America, I use the native Maps, but the native app doesn't include Japan, so I used Google over there.

Navfree has become my first choice, if that does really not work I usually try BlackBerry Maps, if that messes up too I am back to Google Maps.

BeMaps Pro... since other than Google Map, this one really works in Middle East countries...

I used BlackBerry Maps as often as possible, but when I tried the alternatives, some of them faster, some of them more feature rich, some of them more detailed and accurate when it comes to local search or navigation, it's hard to say which app is the best.

Figured it might need some kind of comparison-sheet for such questions. Something like:

Summary and Apps in order of choice.
    Region/Country: Europe/Austria
Local search: BeMaps Pro - Foursquare - BlackBerry Maps - Google Maps
    Maps/Overview: BlackBerry Maps
Navigation/Planning: Navfree - BeMaps Pro - Google Maps
Navigation/Car: Navfree - BlackBerry Maps - Google Maps
    Navigation/Bike/Walking: Google Maps

I'm using it for walking around, using trains, or looking for interesting places. For me is Google maps the only choice because bb maps have no japanese maps and no features that I'm looking for.
    Sometimes I'm using navfree.

I use a combo of native app (for within the tri-county area) and Waze (for new places I could get easily lost in).

The native app is good because it has a simple, straightforward layout and is easy to use for when you're in a hurry. The downside is it can be inaccurate from time to time (I was once caught in a loop of u-turns because it wasn't recalibrating correctly).

With Waze, you have a ridiculous amount of features: turn by turn nav, cop/traffic/construction alerts, etc. And, these are all constantly updated as it is other drivers using Waze who put up the warnings. The only downside really is that all the features can give you a headache when you're just trying to get down the street to a Jiffy Lube or something.

Overall I think it's a good idea to have at least 2 navigation apps, one for quick trips and one for long trips. Sometimes you want to know every hazard coming your way, and sometimes you just want a nice quiet drive with the occasional "turn left on Moorpark road."
