9 Apps is offering Whatsapp version 2.16.99 with an Android runtime 2.1+ This is a beta version and they give all of the Whatapp contact information for feedback. Rocking 24-7 with my Passport SE & semi retired Z10
Is this the one you're talking about? Theoretically, will this work on the Passport after 2016, since it's an Android version?

There's no public API for WhatsApp.
    Understood.
For MeeGo OS (Nokia N9), there is an unofficial client for Whatsapp (What's up) that works really well. Somehow the developer has managed to get this done. I hope something similar will eventuate for us Passport owners - Whatsapp is essential in many parts of the world, sadly.

Hi Ramiusm yes that is the one. I'm not using it yet as I'm still using the one offered by BlackBerry I'm on the beta version 2.16.49 which is the latest update from the beta zone. This beta version is even more of an update. I'm keeping an eye on this for when the time comes that WA no longer supports BlackBerry. I have installed quite a few app's from here and they all work fine on both my Z10 & Passport. Rocking 24-7 with my Passport SE & semi retired Z10

Right! So, to confirm, that APK will work in BB10? If so, I hope to be able to use that post-2016 on the Passport.

Actually, I just checked with a friend who is using a Z30 and he installed the Android version of Whatsapp through SNAP. So far that works well. I'm going to try that, as the APKs obtained through SNAP are verified, hence more secure. Will report back when I'm done.

I think she was smart enough to be the first one who dumped the new BlackBerry line.
Well it was a great idea, but poorly executed. There are many ways to earn (or in this case, hire) the repute and credibility of a well-known person. Timing is one of them...

    Ok. Here's the update:
    1. I tried installing SNAP. Installation worked, but it could never login successfully.
    2. I then tried 9apps.com. Installed that, then Whatsapp Beta.
    3. Whatsapp for Android works now!

    So this is great news!

One noticeable issue with this Android Whatsapp version - one cannot send photos, but receiving photos works fine. Texts are okay too. It may be a beta version issue.

Hi Ramiusm thanks for the update. Keep us posted on how it works for you. I know what Ginowine is saying but I run Instagram and a few other android app's from this site on my Passport SE & Z10 with no issues that are not supposed to work on BlackBerry. I do guess that time will tell but this in encouraging. Thanks again Ramiusm. Rocking 24-7 with my Passport SE & semi retired Z10

Blog sites and official WhatsApp Blog. In the end you (as a user) will sooner or later be forced to buy a new Android (HTC, Samsung, LG etc) or Android-BlackBerry (Priv, Hamburg, Rome etc) device in order to use WhatsApp again with new benefits such as updates for new WA features.

Eventually WhatsApp recommanding or demanding you to buy a new portable smartphone device afterwards. Because of there statement and they said that the whole, global market focusses more only on newest OS versions of Google, Apple and Microsoft with recent and future API's for newest portable smartphone devices.

I'm not so sure that I like the idea of a portable smartphone. Sounds a bit science fictiony to me.

No worries. I'm just very pleased that I can continue to use Whatsapp Android on the Passport. So I cannot send pics, but so long as sending & receiving texts and receiving pics work, I'm not complaining.

Hopefully we'll see a 3rd party Whatsapp BB10 client next year. I'll gladly pay for it.

I recently came from the OG BlackBerry Passport , So In the end I was forced to buy a new portable smartphone device and I have bought the BlackBerry Priv for later times. So now I have the newest smartphone device at home too and I'm happy about the Priv with Android OS 6.0.1 Marshmellow update.

The reason is simple: I strongly need WhatsApp Messenger, PKB/VKB to use for multitasking. The rest are extra benefits with options which I can exploit and expand things after.

Because of the old version within the older develop writing API skill level of Crypt files and end-to-to-encryption maybe. It's has got something to do with that I guess.

WhatsApp Inc [ FB ] has modified the develop writing API skill level of Crypt files drastically for security reasons I think.

Crypt file is becoming Crypt8 file with security layers on it.

Yes, I agree and understand your needs. Like it or not, the app ecosystem is now driving mobile operating systems. That's just something BB10 users need to face. Android will be the inevitable choice later on, and I can only hope that BlackBerry will continue to make secure phones in the future.

I too had to buy Priv to replace my Passport. It will be here in a couple of days. I've carried two phones the last three years. My LG G2 has been a great android phone the last three years. In that span, I've purchased and used the BlackBerry Z10, Leap, Z30, Q10, Classic and Passport alongside my secondary phone. However, I've noticed with the necessary apps to maintain productivity, my G2 has become the productivity tool. How ironic that sounds!!!!

10% of people using 4.4 Android OS is still a lot man...we are talking of Android devices, not of BlackBerry devices. I personally don't think they will be soon stop to support 4.4 version. It would be insane...then, anyway it is always WA to decide....no matters what people say.

It's updated constantly. All the apps. Millions of $500 tablets running jellybean are still supported.
