Will I finally be able to insert rows/columns into my spreadsheet using sheets to go?
Can't believe I'm still asking this question halfway through 2014.

I don't see the problem if it is 4 rows when you are typing, do you realize that when you are typing, generally you don't need the overviewing of the spreadsheet?, and sebanescu as an owner of a SG4 I can tell you that when you type in landscape mode (one of the most annoying things to do btw) 3/4 of the screen is gone, so it is not the same with the passport.
I love it. Probably going to be the replacement for of my beloved Z10. The simple keyboard is just perfect. The device has everything i want.
Do you realize the symbols won't be permanently there? And compared to the other phones you don't need to go in landscape mode to view wider.
Like someone else pointed out if you put any all touch devices in landscape the keyboard will take a huge section of the screen almost permanently.
The passport is obviously better here because it allows you better viewing of the spreadsheets. Editing will probably be slightly better than a regular all touch or on par
I use spreadsheets more than I would like. The shape of the passport will be a much better experience for this activity. The width is going to make a big difference but also just the shape in general. Spreadsheets suck on rectangular phones. Landscape is worthless especially with the keyboard up and portrait is far to narrow. Anyway that's my take as a heavy spreadsheet user. OP, I'm fine with you feeling too lazy to mock up the other two phones. But I will say it makes the keyboard mock up of the passport that much more useless. First of all there is no way to compare so why even bother. And secondly we don't actually know how the VKB will operate in these instances so you're essentially presenting the worst case scenario.
Speaking of "stupid," right in my original comment I also talk about the symbols necessary for equations which I use a lot while editing spreadsheets... Just saying...

You're right, if all you do is review or look at spreadsheets, the screen size is definitely an advantage over the competition.

Well, that could always change. Software things can always be improved, but hardware designs are more permanent.

Well, for viewing only, yes you can put the competition on landscape, but while editing now their virtual keyboard would take up most of that... So his point about the passport still having a slight advantage over them is a valid point, I'm not arguing that, but I think the advantage could be so much more if they had kept the numbers and symbols on the keyboard so there wasn't a need for a virtual keyboard.

Every time I read a post about how BlackBerry messed up the keyboard I chuckle because we have no idea how the Passport and the new keyboard will perform.
I believe that BlackBerry has done plenty of research as to what they want this phone to be and why. This isn't to say that a later version of the Passport might include symbols and the added row of keys but I'm excited to see what they have already created.
I wouldn't say I'm going to buy the Passport without trying it out first but it is going to be hard for me to stay with something like the Classic when the Passport is available. I need/want the latest and greatest.

I'm waiting to give the device with their new keyboard a try before forming an opinion. No sense in me getting fussed over features that I haven't tried yet.
Yes I do enter more numbers than text, when working with spreadsheets. However I do work with more text entries than I do spreadsheets type of documents on my BlackBerry.
Besides, more often than not, I view spreadsheets more so than I modify them on my device. Any real work happens on my laptop and desktop in my office. Attending meetings, conferences, etc...I tend to view content rather than author them.
So I'm waiting to get the Passport in my hands first. However the display width and height is a key features that actually draws me to the device itself.
Cheers.
I mention that in my original comment, it's only due to my laziness, I did it fairly late at night before I went to sleep. But you can easily imagine where their keyboards will be. I can make another picture tonight, or maybe tomorrow night would be better because I'll be pretty busy tonight...

Exactly...

Yes, I've acknowledged that landscape mode typing on the competition would be worse, I never said the Passport is "worse" than either of them. Notice my original comment states that it makes the difference to be "not much" meaning I still think even with the virtual keyboard the Passport is still better, but just not nearly as much as it could have been had they kept the numbers and symbols on the physical keyboard.

I've already addressed this. Yes, it will be "slightly" better than the competition. My point was never that it would be worse. My point is that it could have been A LOT better than the competition rather than only slightly better had they gone with a full keyboard...

There's "no way" to compare? Sorry, not to be mean, but you can't visualize it in your mind? I don't think I have super powers, but I could easily visualize how much screen real-estate their virtual keyboards will take up... Anyway, I'll be far too busy tonight but perhaps tomorrow night I'll finish the comparison with the other virtual keyboards overlayed.

Unless you are an Office 365 customer, it really doesn't matter. I rather not have to pay for the extra CAL for my users to use office 365. Dont want out docs in the cloud anyway. Docs to Go supports many of the office 2010 items. I cannot speak for how it compares to 2013.
Definitely, if it works for you, definitely get whatever works. I was never making the argument that even in my worst-case scenario of this example mock-up that the Passport is inferior to either of the competing phones, I was simply saying that it could have potentially been much better if NO virtual keyboard, whether full like that or even a one line virtual keyboard, was needed to get the job done.
And for those saying it might only display one line with numbers and symbols, that means you'll need to use the touchscreen to enter those numbers and symbols? I actually would rather use the full virtual keyboard and take up screen space if that means I can use the physical keyboard to input those numbers and symbols... If I liked typing on touchscreen I wouldn't bother with a keyboard phone now would I?...

Imagine if they had put a bold sized keyboard on the device, then added a numbers keyboard on the left. With some kind of hand strap it might have made the Passport a one handed device for most usage. Of course then they wold have to make left and right handed devices...
Oh well a niche is a niche.... we will see how it does. .
I very rarely have to look at other values while typing, because when I'm typing values into a cell I have to be looking at what those values actually are, to be sure that they're what I think they are. Before and after entering values, yes, I'm likely to look at other values; but at that point the virtual keyboard is gone.
I'm not going to argue that the virtue keyboard will never cover something that I need to see. I think it's entirely possible that that will happen from time to time. I'm not convinced, however, that it happens enough to rise to the level of a problem. Moreover, I don't think any smartphone is an ideal choice for producing and editing spreadsheets. We really do want nice large screens for that. But for viewing them and making minor edits, the Passport will be pretty good and arguably better than phones with 16:9 screens.
Nobody can't stop BB with final design/release printed with a keyboard "Q=1,W=2.....and H=. " what ever they want it to be and all you have to do is just flick it to the cells in spreadsheet. Come on, I don't think
Their designer that stupid, what you see is not a final product here.
For a moment I read the title as meaning:
"BlackBerry's Passport advertising campaign to be done on a spreadsheet"
and well I thought they were cutting costs?
Regardless - Screen real estate is not the largest issue with spreadsheets on BBRY's, it's that Docs to Go is absolute crap.
And please, tell me, why is it that the BBRY fanboys cannot get past this non-argument..."Well that's not the way I use it so it doesn't matter..."
Seriously, please try to OBJECTIVELY look at the pro's and con's of the device/software/useability combo overall. You are but an minor drop of water in a vast puddle of BBRY users.
Working with spreadsheets on any mobile device has proven to suck b a l l s. Even the Playbook, which has MASSIVE screen real estate compared to the passport sucked.
I would like to see an onscreen numerical keypad, only bottom corner of the screen. This would be ideal for working in spreadsheets.
