- I resurrected my old Passport a couple of weeks ago after using an XPeria Z5 for a couple of years. I originally moved on because I needed to use more and more Android apps, but sideloading/patching made things laggy and buggy. Did some serious reading this time on these forums to try again with better options, and my phone is is working beautifully!
The Passport is still the best phone I have ever used (my first was a 3 watt bag phone in 1982....). Never any hardware issues. Can't believe how much I missed this keyboard! I just replaced the battery, had to track down a couple of drainy apps and get rid of them, but am now getting a good 40 hours of battery life with a big lot of Android apps on the phone!
Am heartbroken to hear of the 2019 end of BB10-such a slick and functional OS.....will wait for a better Keyone before jumping.
Main purpose of this message: THANK YOU to everyone on this forum for their programming efforts, generously shared knowledge, and sense of community for getting me back in BlackBerry land!
Cheers,
Paul

Posted via CB1001-19-18 05:48 PMLike 0 - The first thing I did was replace my battery: it had done at least 1000 recharge cycles. From advice on these forums, I installed GSAM battery app that told me which apps were draining power (in my case it was Android apps Stocard and Amazon music.) Other apps that also using substantial battery I turned "run when minimized" off.
It was a slow process, but worthwhile!

- Glad for TS. But some people have not ever jumped off the BlackBerry 10 experience I find myself enjoying my BlackBerry Passport Silver Edition more and more this year Especially since our big brother (in my country) unblocked BlackBerry services and I can use BBM without hassle and has convinced few friends to use it too
Posted via BlackBerry Passport Silver Edition01-20-18 08:41 AMLike 0 - I sold my blackberry keyone and brought a used passport silver edition. Damn, I miss the productivity. Keyone is nowhere near passport. How I wish BB10 survived another 10 years.02-20-18 12:53 AMLike 2
- Exactly why I can't as much as I want. I have spent some time tweaking my Passport and have everything set perfectly so it does everything I want with the exception of one thing. The Web browsing..... I have a hard time justifying using a device with a browser that will freeze and sometimes crash the other apps running likely due to ram clogging from certain poorly coded websites.
I absolutely love my Passport and am left with the decision to avoid certain websites until Athena comes out or just keep my Oneplus 3T and ride that till then.
Have to say the Passport really nails it in every area and category. It is an amazing phone and it's is sad that it can't be(wont be) reproduced. One thing I do love is the ease of customization in notifications and the LED ( which is big and bright) will blink all colors in their order to notify you. I can't seem to get that on android.02-20-18 07:59 AMLike 0 - Exactly why I can't as much as I want. Essential tool if your going to stay on BB1002-21-18 09:46 AMLike 0 - Actually Qbrowser still has to depend and work on the same infrastructure as stock browser so pages that just can't be rendered or loaded can be still accessed using Yubrowser from the GPS. It was designed to take advantage of the processor in the Passport and loads every single page the stock browser can not. Just don't use night mode or power savings mode in the browser.
Essential tool if your going to stay on BB10
Also the description says it has its own engine... If i remember reading right.
Will also try YuBrowser.02-22-18 12:16 AMLike 0 - I've never found any real use of bed time mode to be honest. If the dim lit clock stayed on it would be cool to use... like in todays always on amoled's.02-22-18 12:18 AMLike 0

All I know is what has been said in these forums and that Qbrowser does rely on the built in framwork. I will try and find the link to where it was discussed.
Posted via CB1002-22-18 12:29 AMLike 0 - Doesn't have to be that the page won't load but how it's loads is the issue. I've had pages where some functions won't work or a link opens to a blank page. Perhaps you don't browse as much as I do but I have seen plenty. One example would be in yahoo finance. Once you have saved some favorite stocks to your portfolio and then want to go to see all your saved favorites it won't work. Just one example of many.

Serious stuff like banking, finance etc has been outsourced to up to date devices.
No point trying to force things to work which the innards of passport can't handle.... especially heavier and heavier java script pages filled with **** load of advertising and tracking tools.Qorax likes this.02-22-18 02:24 AMLike 1 - Bedside is supposed to stay on. The size, color and the dimness is what is not also duplicated. With android, I could not see across the dark room using screen saver mode which does the same thing.02-22-18 05:59 AMLike 2

Care to tell me how your clock remains illuminated in bed side mode?02-22-18 06:13 AMLike 0 - You must have it plugged in. That's all I did differently. Then swipe down and put it in bedside mode.02-22-18 06:23 AMLike 0
- I do reading on my Passport mostly these days. Also image sites to enjoy the big screen.

If you think browser is problem just load up Firefox. Still works fine on BB10 and you really can't blame outdated browser for anything anymore.02-25-18 11:26 AMLike 0 - I do reading on my Passport mostly these days. Also image sites to enjoy the big screen.
