Hi sadly BlackBerry Passport cannot play avi video. Anyone has idea how to play avi without installing android apps? Without also converting to the desktop to mp4. Thanks

If the Passport cannot play avi and you don't want Android players and you don't want to convert, then no.
    You cannot play avi video.
    Sorry.
Converting to mp4 would make the most sense. But since you don't want to do that step then you won't be able to play them.

Get Kalemsoft from bbw. Native video player that can handle pretty much anything.

Nutty Player is good too. Also native.

I'm not sure why you can't play avi files? I have avi, mkv and mp4 on my SD card and they all play fine with the Video app that comes along with the Passport. I have also the app Autoplay Videos that play my video files with no problems.

AVI says nothing. It's the codec used within that file container that matters. Kalemsoft handles most codecs.

He can't use Kalemsoft. He doesn't pay for apps. They must be free and do it all.

Hahaha. Been playing avi's on my BlackBerry since the old days.

Your file is most likely corrupt or has a bad conversion.

Your file is probably AC3 codec, that's why! It doesn't play!
I would suggest to download any video file 480p, they are all for mobile devices and they are available all over the place!

Read that in another of his threads.....

If your not going to lighten up the purse strings a bit for added functionality(although the passport does support avi files), perhaps you should be on an android device where 99% of the apps are free or add supported free. You won't find to much of that here.

I honestly like you, and really don't mean to sound like a d*ck, but remind me again how you became an ambassador, or who picks these positions?(sure I'm going to get a reprimand for this post)

I noticed you have been here a long time(admittedly longer then me), but I honestly have yet to see you give one piece of sound advise, or know what you talking about(like the above post. Every BB going back to my pearl could play an AVI file, and I feel like you should have known this).

Again I apologize for sounding like a d*ck. And this is in no way a personal attack on you.

I'm not sure if it's just me, but it seems that my Z30 that is now on 10.3.1.2267 cannot play AVI videos.

The files have been in my memory card for over a year and I am positive that I watched them on my Z30 before it may have been on 10.2.1 or 10.3.0 I'm not sure but I know for a fact the files are not corrupt and the built in BlackBerry player will not play AVI videos.

It plays MP4, MPEG, and MTV just fine.
AVI is the only one I've tested that doesn't work.

I installed command shell, and the gcc toolchain. I compiled image magick which can convert videos. It is native, but a command line utility which is run in the terminal.

Probably not what you want to hear.

Secondly, avi is the container. It can contain a video/audio stream in any arbitrary codec. The pp doesnt support mpeg (1) for example. So some avi files will play and some won't. I installed VLC for those times I absolutely had to watch an old video and didnt have time to convert it.
