So my thoughts were of getting a galaxy note 10.1 as a portable replacement for my laptop and having the ability to jot down notes in your own handwriting. With the Passport screen size I was wondering if anyone has used a stylus with it and their thoughts. I read another thread where the user said the Passport replaced his iPad. If this is the case then I might not need to get the Note.

    Thanks

I would like to use one. Something which can be used with both ipad and passport both and has a fine tip. It's very useful for pdf annotations . Even galaxy note's stylus is not verhandy- it's very thin and flimsy. Would like one with a folio case so it can be kept like a pen-pad.
    Any suggestions?

I tried the Samsung pen that came with the device. No reaction on the Passport whatsoever, sorry.

The only stylus's, (stylii?) that will work are capacitive ones (i.e. ones that simulate your finger). If you look on Amazon, there are many stylus's that will work although all have a wide, sponge-like tip. Unless a device has been specifically designed for a stylus (Galaxy Note series, Surface tablets) there is no way to get a thin point. This is the holy grail for iPad users and of yet no one has found a reliable solution. There are some workarounds being attempted ( for example via Bluetooth) and other methods but nothing yet simple and reliable.

Capacitive stylus need to have about 1/4" of contact to register. This is why those big rubbery sponge tips are used. There are some that have a fine point and then a small piece of capacitive plastic that makes contact. These are about as good as you will find for a capacitive stylus with a fine point.

It is quite useful for marking up/ commenting pdf documents and signature. On a bigger screen such as the Samsung note 8 and above, good for sketching during discussions and taking quick notes.

I received a sample pen and it is a two in one, pen and stylus. I briefly tried it on my Passport screen and works fine. Because it is a two in one, I am afraid to use it as I dont want to take any chances. I believe they sell for 89 cents each, no minimum order but if I was to consider one, it would definitely have to be a stylus only device. So far, I don't feel the need for one

No. But I make use of the keyboard scrolling. I try as little as possible to touch the screen while at work.
