I'll be honest, I thought engineers at BlackBerry had lost it when I first read about the three row keyboard. I was reluctant to buy one. Since no one carries it I had to order one online with out ever seeing it.

I thought I would like the phone but would have to get used to the keyboard. A week in and I am loving the keyboard and I am starting to think it's a great design.

My only issue is the keys are too stiff.

I agree, I was originally not really on board, but they did a fantastic job.

I now prefer the 3 row to a standard 4 row keyboard.

And don't worry about the stiffness, I felt mine was stiff as well, but it goes away with time.

I was skeptical about the three row keyboard at first. I was so used to the regular keyboard on the Q10. For the first few days on the Passport I would hit the imaginary "Alt" key which turned out to be the Z. haha After a few days I was quickly and effortlessly typing away. The combination of the physical and virtual keyboard actually makes sense now, and is a very convenient set up.

I think it was necessary for BlackBerry to make this kind of device. As John Chen (I think it was him) had stated previously, they know they can't compete with the rectangular all-touch phones--Apple and Google have that market. Instead, BlackBerry needs to make something different that will help them stand out and also be useful. When I first saw the Passport design I thought it was hideous and never thought they'd actually make one, much less see myself buying one. But now I see that they made a smart move.

I'm curious, does the keyboard allow one to use a cursor for Internet browsing, or is it basically just for scrolling? I haven't had the opportunity to get my hands on one yet to find out.

No it doesn't. In the browser the keyboard can only help you scroll.

I like the 3 lines now. The smaller space bar threw me off for a bit. Use to hit the b all the time for a space

I'm all for it. I got into a huge argument with a Bold holdout and now-classic owner (I guess it did work!) about whether the traditional keyboard with the alt and shift and no gestures is more efficient. He was stubbornly of the opinion that it is, but I disagree! This keyboard is a breeze, and the changing virtual fourth row a godsend, and the gestures super zippy and the flick to type a blessing when it comes to those longer words you'd rather not pound out.

It took a big, but I really feel like everything about this keyboard is the way it should be.

I'm the ultimate skeptic, and really never thought I'd get used to it or like it.

Now it's like I never used a four row keyboard. I'd love to see BlackBerry implement the touch physical keyboard on all future models, even if you want to turn it off. I love deleting words with it, and flicking words up.

BlackBerry has made their already best keyboard experience even better.

I, too, have had no issues whatsoever adapting to the 3-row keyboard. The whole functionality of the phone has been rather intuitive.

I'm loving it as well, right down to the nonlit spacebar. The touch-enabled feature really is amazing once u get the hang of it.

I remember the first pic I saw of the Passport when John Chen was holding it up and thinking "What the hell is that?"

I didn't know it yet but it was my future phone!

I love the 3 rows keyboard.

3 rows keyboard + virtual keys for numbers and symbols is the way to go!

I want three row touch sensitive with a bit more curve to the keys on a tall device. With more of the on screen UI navigation things moved to the bottom of the screen. That would be bomb!
