Then people could buy it after their phone was already broken, and make a claim.
Exactly.... How could they sell a warranty on something 6 months old.... It would be like putting collision on your car after getting into an accident.....

I am skeptical about these extended warranty plans as a sell them myself in my business, but in this case I think its worth it

I wonder how many have actually broken their PP screens?

It's worth noting that Apple care's iPhone deductable is $79 as opposed to the $129 for the PP, but no up front cost.

Mmh. I think I'm going to sign up for the coverage...

I purchased both my passport and classic from someone on craigslist last month. They didn't have the box or receipt, but they let me purchase a plan anyway.

I got an email about it just the other day, and I was able to sign up for the plan even though it was purchased more than 30 days ago in January.

Frustrating for me as I bought the Passport day 1 unlocked from DR and I am not able to sign up for it. I complained to BB's twitter account and encourage others to do so as well.

I want to buy it, but don't really want a recurring monthly charge. Would prefer to to prepay for the warranty upfront... also not terribly excited about the $129 deductible for the passport...

I'm not sure why people think this is a good deal. You pay $120 for one year of coverage. The first year you pay $60 even though that simply applies to the second year of coverage. Everyone is already covered for the first year for free. You then pay $130 per claim. So say your keyboard breaks, you'll be investing $250 to repair it. Then your screen cracks, that's another $130. You'll have already surpassed the value of the phone by then. (Accounting for depreciation.) That's too much for one year of coverage.

There are better aftermarket options available. Many of them allow you to purchase a plan long after you bought the phone.

Edit: The coverage on the second year appears to be just the same limited warranty. So they won't even cover a screen crack. It only covers manufacturer defects.

Blackberry Care will not cover that. It will only cover defects from normal use. If you want to cover accidental damage, buy an accidental plan. There are many options out there available.
