Basically, I can set up the language, but I don't know the keyboard layout by heart. Is there a way to get a soft keyboard on the screen?

Not sure if you missed that but once you've added the language under input languages, you need to long press on the physical keyboard to get a list of characters you can choose from.
Seems a bit time consuming way to type text though.

You mean when I actually want to use the language?
That's fair enough if you know which letter on the qwerty keyboard corresponds to the letter you want to use.

Random trying of letters is pointless.

Did I miss something? Is there a way to see which letter corresponds to the keyboard?
The developers couldn't have missed that! I'm sure they don't expect every user to know what the layout is by memory. Why add all the languages if you are going to make them impossible to use?

This is a limitation of physical keyboards I guess. Perhaps they may be a regional Passport variant that is more suitable for your language?

This might also be an alternative:

This is something I worried about when going for the Passport. Typing Arabic on the Z30 was super easy. How was I gonna cope with that on a physical keyboard if I can't see the letters? Let me tell you, I nailed it down in 1 day. Being quite slow at first, I feel even more confident typing on the Passport now than on the VKB. I'm still not as fast though. But then again, I've had the Passport for just a week and I've abused the Z30 for a year.

My advice to you is just play with it. Get the layout for your language from here http://docs.blackberry.com/en/smartp...6897414855.jsp and go with it. If the language is native to you, then you'll quickly understand its logic and I assure you you'll be typing with full confidence in a matter of days and improving from there on.

BlackBerry need to fix this. It can't be that hard to add a virtual keyboard in other languages when in that language mode. There are already 2 sheets of VKB for symbols... just add a third for non-latin languages.

I think that wouldn't work. The easiest thing for BlackBerry to do is to make stickerpacks for different languages which can be applied to the buttons. Actually, it would be the second easiest thing to do. What they did now was the easiest.

But honestly guys, try working on it for a while. I had no idea I would adapt to it this easy.

I don't know.. but try to find laser engraving service. It s like taking black things off the keyboard. And it will glow with backlight too. Here is Korean version. it's cheap and nice.

Thank you for the comments, silent key is useful, but it's a copy and paste app. Not very practical.

Will check the one from appworld, but since I'm on 3g appworld doesn't work. I need to be on wifi for some odd reason.

Have you tried my suggestion? Give it a week to see if it works for you. Don't draw conclusions until you give it a try for a period. I know you won't be disappointed.

Use your remember and practice a little bit to see where the letters are.

Someone gave me the basics on typing using other language characters. But, no one directed me to keyboard layouts. So, this was quite helpful. Thank you.

It doesn't help that I use the second language very rarely...
