I've only been able to find this store online to have the screen and digitizer for replacement.

Does anyone know is the volume and play/pause buttons are made out of plastic or stainless steel?

If all pieces are made of stainless than you can disassemble the phone and have the stainless pieces black oxided at a shop, which should be fairly cheap as its not a lot of material...

This should provide for a durable long lasting black, which can also be polished to a glossy finish if desired

People do these kinds of finishes on golf clubs and gun parts all the time

Can the frets between the keys on the keyboard be swapped out?

Right now I have a black and a red Passport in my possession. My scale doesn't do grams, but it says both are 6.8 oz. I swear the black one feels heavier. I also like the grippier feel of the black Passport.

I'm wondering if I can swap the keyboard, frets, and back to make an all black Passport. I would probably keep that. If not, I'll probably keep the red because it's different.

I've seen the disassembly videos, but none go into the keyboard portion.

iirc the keyboard is held together with some plastic pins that go through holes on a backing plate and are press melted, or at least the frets maybe are held on this way.. I actually have a pic

I made my own  logo for my Stilgut to dress up the back . It is outdoor vinyl, held up for months already with no peeling or damage.

I've been tempted to take a black can of plastidip and turn the silver metal ridges between the keyboard rows black - haven't had the guts yet though, I like the passport too much and am worried about the plastidip getting into the keyboard under the letters and mucking up the typing. But an all black passport is just so nice..

How about precision cut thin strips of high-quality black vinyl? Might take a few tries but could be good.

How do you paint the frets then? Don't muck up your keyboard with plastidip. It won't work out. There must be a way to replace the frets.

I can try to make vinyl overlays for the frets. It will be difficult to apply though...maybe if I measure the spacing properly I can make it possible to do all three frets at once?

I have a plotter, which is how I made the red  logo for my stilgut.
