    There is not much effort needed to make Play Services run on that aspect ratio. The proof is the existing workaround for Google Play Store and Play Services that I've created.

    The only realissue is the way how a square device is being checked in by Google Services Framework. Because of the 1:1 ratio, the device will report as a device with a small screen layout (identificator 1). The effect of this is, that many apps in Play Store are displayed as incompatible or don't even show up. The only way to solve that was to spoof the screen layout during the checkin process in BlackBerry Google ID (which actually is the emulation of the Google Services Framework) on a OS10 device..

    Code:
    Code:
    Configuration configuration = context.getResources().getConfiguration();
    int screenLayout = configuration.screenLayout & 15;
    if (screenLayout <2) screenLayout = 2;
    Of course the device props could simply report a false value (2), which would be the easiest way to go. But even that would be kind of a hack, woudn't it?
    And, lots of Android apps, even videos, seem to work just fine on BlackBerry 10 device's with square 1:1 screen, even if a bit of scrolling is required to see everything.

    Glad it worked out bro! Had a feeling they were going to take care of you. They have done so in the past.
    Hill they should have thrown a PlayBook in on the deal too!

    The things some people base their phone choices on... Can't you just get a headset with a play button?
    Can't you find a question to ask the OP instead of being critical of others questions?
    I base my decision on many factors so if your small mind thought this was the only concern I am sorry.

    Because ONLY blackberry can unlock their bootloaders (the thing that puts Android into the phones memory). And they won't.

    That has been "made" by blackberry, for their own use.
    And yes, if blackberry decides to change your passport into a android passport, they can do that.
    Question is - how will u make them decide that they change ur PP into android & y will they do it.

    i think we're living in a bubble.
    even if 1,000 passport owners wanted the android update it wouldn't be nearly enough to fund their release and development cycle for it let alone googles 1:1 ratio issue...

    Oh well, the most interesting blackberry story in ages comes to an end, thanks BlackBerry, you put the FU in fun.

    On a side note, if these devices are Sooo ******* precious to BlackBerry, why do they put some kind of kill switch in them? I mean, they are software security experts right?

    If they did you'd think 10.3.3, dark hub etc might have happened by now. I don't tend to think they pay much attention but this thread along with all the comments was bound to tip someone off.
