How about petitioning blackberry about programming the current passports OTA with Android. Of course at a charge.

    I would go for that,
But really doubt Chen would give a sh't about it.

I still think that if blackberry offers dual booting os option for their device, it would be very appealing.

No offense to the OP, but this why I don't say whether or not I'm buying these devices when they come up. Everyone is all 'CB should buy it', 'Bla1ze should buy it'.. that's just putting it out there. Plus, even if I did, I would create the content I wanted with it BEFORE I posted a 'here it is' lol. Not 'here it is, I'll do more with it later!' This is where having been around here for nearly 10 years pays off, this has happened before and will happen again. BlackBerry will always come looking for their property if it was never meant to be in the hands of the public.

    Op should have:

    • Bought it. Said nothing.
    • Take pics, take video, do everything he wanted to do with it.
    • Then post it.
    • Disappear for a few days

The device was retrieved by Blackberry this evening, and is no longer in my possession. They were more than kind to replace it with a brand new Passport as a replacement. Unfortunately, I doubt I will be getting my money back, but overall I'm happy with the outcome. This will be my last post on the matter.

You just got a brand new Passport for 280.00 and have a great story to go with it. (which it sounds like you can't tell anyone about going forward) . It was great to be a part of it, and thanks for sharing.

I would just like it if they gave us the 10.3.3 official update. I would pay for the OTA android update, but, I don't believe that is realistic. Just give me the 10.3.3 and make my passport work again

While that's a great post, there's nothing new there in regards to info. This was all known long ago. Anyone who was around when that device first started leaking should already know everything in that post.

The article says that "Google states any non-Watch Android devices must use a 4:3 or 16:9 screen resolution" and refers to page 35 of the Android 6.0 Compatibility Definition.

What it actually says on page 35 is: "The screen aspect ratio MUST be a value from 1.3333 (4:3) to 1.86 (roughly 16:9)."

The rumored BlackBerry Mercury Android physical keyboard device could have a a 3:2 (1.5) screen ratio and still be within the 1.3333 to 1.86 specified range.

Frankly I always thought that the android Passport leaks weren't legitimate.
    Glad it got cleared out
But what could be the reason for Google not allowing a 1:1 ratio? Or they simply dropped due to inconvenience as the article states?
