It's strange that with a radio chip which can actually use real 4G nothing came out of this. I think switching the OS might be impossible since BB10 was never hacked. Maybe if he just focused on getting 4G working he's have something.
He didn't know what he didn't known....

He already admitted that replacing just the chip wouldn't work. He had looked into having a custom chipset built to fit the Passport... (and it's why he wanted donations for a trip to China). But finding someone willing to build only a few hundred of them and then provide the right driver package for Android. Just isn't viable for a few dozen people.

Getting 4G VoIP working within BB10.... again the OS is locked down. But even if it weren't that would be a huge undertaking in coding, I think he was mostly just a parts changer.

In the end the Unihertz Titan is Android on the Passport...

If he, or anyone reading this, can get this going, then simply one prototype phone, even if the board is outside of the device itself connected to the display and keyboard, mics, etc with wires, is proof of concept. (Step 1).

[I'm sure it's possible to take an android computer and wire it to work with a small display and keyboard.]

Step 2 would be to build the chips to fit inside the case (or a modified back case).

Step 3, can be proof of concept with the chipset, battery, etc, fitting nicely inside the case.
    [Shrinking components.]

I haven't seen Step 1 completed yet but I would like to. Lets talk about step 1.

If it's all so easy, then by all means, have at it.

    Just go build those chips.

Let us know how it goes.

The trouble with this thread is the OP deleted most of their posts so there is no record of their progress and what they did and didn’t try.

It’s a complete non starter, I along with most of the other regulars on here read the original thread as it progressed and things didn’t look good then, but trying to read the old posts and see what went down now is almost impossible.

Changing out the ECCM was a non-starter... he just didn't know that.

Next idea of having some factory in China make a run of more modern "guts" that would fit into the Passport (or one of several BlackBerry's he was considering) was just as much a non-starter. He was looking at minimum order of 10K units in most cases and a cost likly over $500. Even if he had gotten it down to a thousand units minimum, I don't think there are a thousand folks willing to update a Passport for that kind of price. Especially as it would likly be a very beta experience.

At least the kid doing the SES keyboard... was just a kid.

Yeah, so their in cost at 10,000 units minimum order would have been $5,000,000, a big punt!

Even at 1,000 units minimum still a big risk with $500,000 of their own money!!

In the end he would have had to move this all to a kickstater program....

He didn't have that kind of money, as he was asking for help getting is equipment for pulling or cloning the ECCM chips and then for money to travel to Hong Kong to try and find a builder. (why some said he was a scammer, his asking for money)

But it got crazy when he started talking about having the Passport's frame extended and rewelded, and some other things that just were not logical - he was already way past a viable product. But kept fantasying, so in the end I think there was a medication issue.
