I have seen many people talking about ambled display which produce much better colors than IPS display. So why BlackBerry made BlackBerry passport to use an IPS display?

I don't know the reasons BlackBerry had for making this choice, but one clear advantage of LCD displays is that they are offering much better performance in sunlight.

AMOLED colour burnout is a big problem. But needs less power coz it doesnt need backlit like IPS LCD.

Pls right me if I'm wrong. Since the passport has an LCD display, it means using white wallpapers and white themes would help with battery life right?

I think the worst problem is the burning screen on LED. Which is not beautiful. I had that on a Samsung Tablet. But not yet on my Z30. But it will happen. Maybe.

Amoled colors are not realistic. They are oversaturated to have the effect of vibrant colors. The advantage ambled have is they can produce almost true black.

IPS colors are more natural but fail to produce the true black. Apple chooses IPS/Retina for more realistic colors.

Google Amoled vs. IPS and you find so many debates over these two screen standards.

But so many devices use AMOLED or super AMOLED these days like lumia 930,730, samsung alpha,note 4 and many more....
I didn't hear the screen problems with those mobiles. Maybe it happened to only S4...... And they might have advanced in technology to solve this issue with the S4.

Which far exceeds the useful life of a phone. So that point is moot. In addition, burn in is less of a issue these days.

Find me examples of Note series getting burned screens anywhere.

True. Experienced this on three year old Galaxy S. All that charm of Amoled is long gone.

I personally prefer the colors on my Z30 and wish the Passport used an Amoled display. I can have the brightness on my Z30 at the minimum and still be able to see fine but on my Passport have to keep it around 20%.

My Note2 screen was useless in direct sunlight, and battery drain was in the high percentages even when dimmed. Passport screen is just fine in the same daylight condition, even dimmed, plus the screen sips battery power, not gulps it.
I don�t have any complaints with the Passport screen.

From what I was told, BlackBerry did not put a AMOLED screen in the passport because at the time they were producing the device, there was no 1440x1440 AMOLED Available

Because LCD screen consumes less power when viewing stuffs with bright background like docs, website, and so on so forth. This is probably why there shouldn't be dark hub on the PP. AMOLED provides true black color but the images are not as sharp as LCD.

I myself prefer the LCD screen.

I use the TapaTalk black background. Are you suggesting (in a informational way) that I should switch to the white background for less battery usage? That would be good to know.

It never caused burn in on my devices. Not even on the old galaxy s+ some years ago.

I hope they do not. I want real colors not fake like you see with amoled. The note 4 has the best screen to date and even that phone had fake colors

Amoled screen colors washes out over time and it doesn't take that long. The colors on my last Samsung washed out in less then 2 years. I compared my phone with an exact same model and new out of the box and the difference was huge.

You should take a picture with the note 4 of a storm coming. I actually tryed to do that, but it kinda made everything dark and could not even see a real difference in the air. It's so damm over saturated...
