I saw this picture on twitter, as you can see that iPhone gets annoying scratches due to the aluminum body.
And I asked the guy to check on passport for me, and he told me it is made of aluminum, but it's a prototype(no ring on the rear camera), I don't know but definitely hope that when this thing finally come out on market, they'll put stainless steel instead!
What do you guys think?

It won't be changed that much, and I feel nice about 9900, it's made of stainless steel(not high quality stainless steel tho)

Hey I'm in the same boat and can't stand this aluminum trend since it's nothing but crappy for smartphones IMO. My take on Halobandit's response is that he just assumed it's aluminum because aluminum in phones is very popular ATM due to the iPhone and HTC. So as he realized the rim isn't made of plastic he assumed it's aluminum without thinking too much about it. At least I hope it's like this and BlackBerry uses stainless steel instead, loved that on my Bold 9900 and nevertheless the Q10 is made of steel as well.

It's basically the same with stainless steel if the entire housing is made of it. But either way that isn't the case.

Knowing BlackBerry the metal rims on each side of the device do belong to a sturdy inner frame/skeleton, just reaching out to the exterior of the phone. At least from the photos that have been leaked so far you can see it's a metal frame that wraps completely around the device (sandwiched at top and bottom) which points to exactly that.

Concerning weight I remember @halobandit mention that the prototype he's been testing weighs 6.875 oz, which is 195g. That's like the heaviest brick of a phone ever hitting a market.

Magnesium. Polished looks like stainless steel, better tensile strength than aluminum and much lighter than both.

The steel which being used on the Q10 is 304 stainless steel according to the salesman of blackberry, if they try 316L stainless steel(which is very often being used on Swiss watches) that'll be fantastic :-)

I like the Magnesium idea. If I'm in a survival situation I could always get shavings from it to start a fire even in wet conditions. Or I could just use it to call for help.

Sadly, my watch with 316L still picks up tiny scratches over time. So regardless of the metal used on the Passport, it will scratch, but shouldn't be too bad because it's just a thin band of metal.

I am hoping for stainless steel as well, but judging by the pictures, I wasn't so sure. Either way I'm getting one when they drop in the U.S.

Aluminium is cold, and slips from your hand easily. Plastic is a good thing. Easy to clean, easy to grip, lightweight.
Nothing productive about the HTC One M8 I own which always feels cold, slips from my hand, and because the sides are not flat my palm is always pressing the screen. It is a phone you can only use with two hands, or flat on a table, or while you are looking down at the ground.
BB is about productivity - no?

Anyway, thicker is better as you can grip it better. The 2mm savings are negligible.
I find it hard to pick up a phone with a curved back. It takes an extra second of fumbling so that you don't accidently push it to the side and off the table.

100% sure. Wouldn't make sense to go for steel on one variant and for something else on another.

Of course it picks up scratches, but if you try wearing a watch made of aluminum, that'll be a silly idea...

Aluminum is great metal for some other field but on a phone is just not good at all.
Too soft too weak too light and even feels bad in your hand. And the color changes over time.
