    Dear BlackBerry fans,

I just went to the store and bought a brandnew BlackBerry Passport for just 100 Euro yesterday.

It was a hard decision since I am happy with my KeyOne. But when I saw the price I thought about the glory days of BB10 and the fun we had here.

I watched youtube videos and it just felt good. The design inspired by the building in Toronto from Mies van der Rohe, the keyboard and the unique design. As a designer myself I need things which communicate my personality. I can't imagine having things everybody have.

I am also a minimalist. Seeing the people glued to these smartphones I said to myself, that I don't wanna spend so much time on a device. So I don't need social media apps. It is a waste of time for me and very artificial. If you do business with social media, perfect. But otherwise it is not for me. Too much drama.

I installed whatsapp with APK. Works good. Otherwise I use BBM. Browser works as well the Maps app. And the Keyboard!!! And the user interface.

It is like driving a Jaguar instead of a Nissan Micra. The quality is premium. The design? Flawless. You can't compare the KeyOne with it.

I will test it for a month. If it won't work, I have my KeyOne on the side.

As a minimalist I think this could work out very well. I just wanna be in contact with my peers, family and beloved ones, taking pictures, listen to music, mail and calendar.

The UI of the calendar on the KeyOne is horrible. The one on the passport is like coming home. Speaker quality is ace.

I feel I can have a lot of fun with it. It is like coming home.

I really don't need gazillion of apps. Less is more.

If you think about getting one in 2018 and love being minimalist, this could be the phone to go.

I will keep you updated guys.

Finally, did you buy? Just waiting for your update. Thanks

I run from my passport till now the following apps:
    1. What's app.apk
    2. Viber.apk
    3. Telegram.apk
    4. 5 email accounts
    6. Chess.com apk
    7. Navfree
    8. Native browser
    9. Supertube
    10. Feedminder

All the above run to my passport real good. That's a fact for me since today at least. Great audio at phone ,calls, music. So that is my reality. Everyone is free of course to define their reality and that's called democracy. This reality depends on knowledge, age, work, hobbies etc...So every opinion describes a unique reality for every unique person inside this forum. And that is a fact that we all must see and respect.

That statistics do not always matter. And that they can be skewed. Real-time experience, observation suggest that "normal" adults DO NOT keep their eyes glued on their phones. They've better/higher things to do in life.

It is the "kids" who are app gulpers. In the real world we do not need apps (for mobile phones), except for the basics. Every [true] online activity is better done on a larger screen. And most adults use their laptops (or iPads) to do that.
Statistics always lead to truth. Just ask Robert McNamara in 1967 about our outstanding kill ratios.

Couldn't resist to comment this : OS2warp is hIghly alive through ArcaOS and before that eComstation. In fact this is an old surviving OS, thanks to a still existing big-company user base and a very dedicated community. It's all 'bout the money .

People want ridiculous amounts for the SE. Don't even bother, it's worth 100-150 max. It's an obsolete phone that needs android runtime to even log into your bank on a browser.

After a month, still using this amazing device.

I haven't switched to my KeyOne so far.

For my basic needs I am a happy camper.

Love being unique. It is like driving a Jaguar or Bentley, while the masses drive cars for the masses. An Audi or Mercedes is nothing special anymore.

I have so much fun typing with this device. Telegram from BlackBerry AppWorld works and also the APK of Whatsapp. Other than that, I love making my appointments with the calendar. Which sucks on the KeyOne due to measly done calendar and it's UX.

Music quality is ace. Call quality also. And the design. A gem.

I wanted to get an SE, but with the crazy prices I just settled for the black one. I now prefer the look of this one over the SE and am happy I spent roughly 300 less!

Sold my passport 18 months ago. Bought an iphone so I could use apps... really did not use any that I can't get for on BB10, but found that my phone productivity reduced a lot. Just bought another passport SE, and am loving it! I'll run this phone for as long as it's functional. Such a great device and OS.

I found the Passports SE were really expensive on ebay, and there are a few sellers on amazon too, but also very pricey. I found mine in CEX, a chain that sells used electronics. I got my passport SE for £130 and it's in perfect condition. So about £20-30 more than the black passport. Both are awesome phones, I like the SE a little more, probably as that was the one I owned before, and silver and black does look nice. (like classic cameras, I'm a Producer/DoP now, but used to be a stills photographer). Anyway, for the Producer part of my life, this phone is a silver slab of sanity!

Passport is the best device I've ever tried and I've tried a few. I've used android devices the apple ones and even a microsoft device but I'm always back to BlackBerry 10 and the passport and I really think I'll keep it as my daily driver till it works.

I dropped my Red Passport and the screen busted real bad to the point that it was unusable. I thought that was it for BB10 and Passport for me and that it was time to move on to Android.

But the more i think about it, the more I'm tempted to get another Passport. I'm currently borrowing an older android phone from a friend and well it's not making a strong case for android.

I get that so many people are addicted to apps but if you think about it a bit, it's more like the apps are using you than you are using the apps. What you need, what any human needs, is basic functionality. Communication, reliability, dependability.

Apps not only corrupt your soul but also add bloat to your phone therefore making it perform worse and killing your battery faster. So while BB10 doesn't come with a million apps, that's actually a blessing in disguise. It allows BB10 to run flawlessly and remain optimized with the few apps it does run.

Apps do to your phone what hoarding does to your house. It creates a huge mess.

I think slowly it has started becoming unusable apart from basic functionalities like phone call, text and emails.
Things like whatsapp video calls, Skype phone calls etc are getting tough to be done. I am not much into apps, but seems the required apk's have stopped working now.
Even native browser doesn't support sites like linkedin, Facebook, etc.
Looks like Keyone is the only option to move on to from Passport.

Of course I could write a lengthy document of what BB10 can and can't do, but "email-only" gets the general gist across.

Obviously one can make calls, use SMS/MMS, and make use of other basic functions of a smartphone.

But when most people's online lives are focused on browsing, IM, social media, and business/personal/specialised app consumption (without workarounds), my message is consistent and understandable to the layman.
I dare you, list 10 things YOUR android does that MY Passport cannot! Then I'll list 20 things MY Passport can do that YOUR Droid cannot! And that will not include all the disadvantages and limitations any Droid user has compared to a person using BB10 stemming from the fact that the mass user of a Droid or isheep device has less brain cells than the phone itself!

I own almost every single BB10 device and tinker with them everyday. I used them as primary device for 2.5 years and continue to support other BB10 users here daily.

I don't need to get into a pissing match with you - I am intimately aware of both platforms (to a fault).

I am intrigued by your implication that I am brain-cell deprived. Not sure why you think a technical discussion needs to go there - but then again, I evidently have a brain deficiency.

Man, I wanted to argue like this once but it's a lost cause! You do realize that you're arguing with a 14 year old or a grown up with the brains of a 14 year old, right? You'll lose the argument...
Enjoy the best (not just BB) device ever created! I know I do mine like few other things!

You'll need to get technical if you want to validate your claims. Otherwise it's just verbal masturbation for the sake of it. If were so intimate with both platforms you would never say such outright nonsense.

You're the kind of people who automatically accept that just because something is new it's also better. In the case of the Passport it's the other way around - a four year old device still excels at what it does not just on its own but compared to 2018 models. On the other hand we all know how a four year old Droid performs today, right. As useless as a paperweight.

On the topic of 'normal' users, statistics and whatnot, I feel sorry for you that you fall in the 2018 category of users! The OP guy is another breed and you have no crossover points with this kind of philosophy, mentality, style and attitude towards life. Sorry, your drone has no app for that!

Switching backs feels good so far.

Its much more useable in regards of hub and overall usability.

I can't use my banking app, but thats what i might shouldnt even do.

Did someone fix scrolling issue in whatsapp android (not by disabeling touch gestures on keyboard in general)?

I have nothing better to do at the moment, so I'll bite.

For me personally, I need very powerful file management - something BB10 does not offer. I need integrated access to webdav, ftp, Mega, LAN, DropBox, etc.

I also require access to my Office365 account and the entire MS Office Suite.

I need a native browser to sync with my desktop and laptop browsers.

I also use a paid VPN service not available on BB10.

None of the 3 major music streaming services - Play Music, Apple Music, and Spotify are natively available on BB10, and I use the first one extensively.

I also regularly work remotely and need access to the Synology suite of apps and services, and my VNC client.

I interact with a number of financial service and travel service companies that do not have BB10 apps, nor have full-featured mobile Web equivalents.

I also require the use a couple of mobile payment methods not available on BB10.

Although I don't personally suffer from the following, many others consider these dealbreakers:

    - lack of EMM clients (ex: AirWatch, the largest in terms of market share), lack of specialised medical software to monitor health issues, lack of corporate collaboration tools like Slack, etc, etc.

These are just off the top of my head.

Can't anyone be a minimalist by just not logging into any social media apps or achieve disconnection status by merely logging out from the various social media apps? Buying a phone without those features seems like overkill when you're not forced to use social media unless for your job or business.
    Don't be silly
