BlackBerry has been busy discussing self-driving cars, global carrier support for PRIV and consumer healthcare apps. But as we shift our energies toward all these exciting opportunities, does that mean the BlackBerry 10 operating system is dead? Far from it.

We know how many discriminating customers still demand the gold standard security and productivity benefits of BlackBerry 10, which shares the same rock-solid code as our market-leading QNX auto platform. Take this recent account by a medical doctor who credited the secure, reliable communications capabilities of his BlackBerry 10-powered Passport device with helping him save a patient’s life.

Consumer and enterprise fans of our workhorse BlackBerry 10 smartphones such as Passport, Classic and others can look forward to many security and privacy enhancements in 2016. The coming version 10.3.3 will be certified for NIAP compliance, meaning it will have passed the strictest government-grade security tests, enabling us to further support our government and regulated customers who use BlackBerry 10 devices and demand the highest levels of security. We are also planning a version 10.3.4 for later this year with even more security improvements.

While we continue to invest in BlackBerry 10 in 2016, we will also develop another Android-based phone. We’ll share more details about our roadmap when we’re ready.

It’s been an exciting CES for BlackBerry. We’re innovating deeply in many new areas, as our many announcements show. Even still, we’re not abandoning the loyal customers who have contributed to our success

You make an interesting case. One could only hope that they continue to support bb10 for the next year or two.

My one hope is that they give use one last runtime update to lollipop. I would be good with that.

    Same.
Third parties are giving up BB10 app development, seems the only way to extend BB10's life is upgrading ART to support higher version, e.g. 5.0

There will always be a cult following. Nokia Belle still has new apps being made for it and it died 5 years ago. Same with Meego and even Maemo.

I believe blackberry would be emulating some grand plans for the future, I'm not yet ready to believe rumors about uncertainty of the Best OS in the world. BlackBerry had annihilated competition, in the past and will be successful in crushing all the chocolate flavors and that idiotic i's.

Further to this , believers are a strong community and growing continuously, people will realize that freedom in apps comes with a cost. That will be turning point for blackberry, it takes time and I believe history will repeat itself, and when it does haters will have no place to hide chocolate covered faces.....

    A die hard blackberry user....

    Thanks for reading.

As I expect we should all count on Bb10. HP approach is interesting. To he'll with apps just use Windows 10.

It's fair to say then BB10 alone with the best browser can compete against windows 10 and cortana. Not much of a difference there is there. This and that.

You know what, I'm gonna go against the grain here and say it has a bright future. All this OS needs is a bit of traction. We see this in the consumer world all the time, something is introduced to little fanfair or awareness but then eventually after some time gains traction due to word of mouth and consumer experience.

BUT (and this is the only caveat), the OS needs to continue to be supported by existing and future physical platforms (ie. phones or even tablets) that the consumer can transition into. Nobody is going to "upgrade" or transition into an old device no matter how good it is.

Even variations of strong platforms (ie. the various versions of the Passport and/or Classic) have proven to be relatively successful. The Passport especially has very strong legs and is still running strong...in fact many would say it is an overall better performer than the Priv.

I think BB just has to keep BB10 alive long enough for it to finally catch on. It's a great OS, it just needs the devices to grow on.

Yes, for some reason, many think the possessive form has an apostrophe. I guess they flunked English.
