Recently purchased a tablet for home media consumption that uses a 2.1A charger. I don't want to have 2 chargers, so can I use this charger to replace my Passport 1.2A?

And run the risk of ruining your battery.

It will degrade your battery, but you're not gonna keep the phone long enough to notice a decrease in battery health.

    Go ahead, no probs.

Yes you can. I'm using my PlayBook charger (which is 1.8A if I still remember it right). Don't worry about ruining your battery because before you even noticed it, you probably have the latest BlackBerry device replacing our Passport...

It's a myth that people misunderstanding how the higher amp charge does harm to the phone. The phone itself has regulated circuitry which withdraws whatever the current the device is designed for. The only downside of using higher amp charger is the heat it generates.

I use the higher amp BlackBerry home and car chargers on my devices and have for years. I started when i got a playbook and needed to charge it also. I have never had an issue.

I purchased a dual 2.1amperage carter block by Ventev and works like a charm and zero heat issues and charges my devices reasonably quickly without any adverse effects whatsoever!

I have a battery that has two outlets, 2.1 and 2.4.. The instructions have a picture of a tablet for the 2.4 and phones 2.1... So I've been using the 2.1 for a couple weeks now, no problems.
