Unlocked Mobiles.com here in the UK are advertising the Passport with a "Full Manufacturers 24 month warranty " I emailed the company to confirm this is correct and they said it does indeed come with a 24 month warranty. Yet every Blackberry warranty I've seen always states all their phones have just a 12 month warranty.

What guarantee did your Passport come with?

I think UK has a mandated 24 month warranty, no? In Canada it's 12 months.

Really? Can anyone shine any light on this? A link perhaps? If I go Settings-About-Legal-Warranty it states the phone has a 12 month warranty.

    Any ideas?

According to this it is 1 year - http://uk.blackberry.com/content/dam...om_English.pdf

However mainland Europe as I recall has a 24 month period in general on consumer items in general. If I remember right the UK never bothered signing up to the same legislation the others did, meaning we get stuck with 12 months as the minimum.

Though possibly the retailer could offer an extra 12 months of course?

Lucky for us who bought it through a carrier, we've got warranty for the duration of the phone-payoff portion of the contract

    Q. I've heard that under European Union (EU) law I'm allowed a two year minimum guarantee on goods. Is that correct?
    A. EU Directive 1999/44/EC states that all European Union member states must allow consumers to make a claim for faulty or misdescribed goods under their consumer rights for a minimum of two years. English law already allows you to make a claim for up to six years from the date you bought the goods and for up to five years in Scotland. Therefore if you buy any goods from any other EU member state, you can assume that you can make a claim for faulty or misdescribed goods for at least two years after.

Well I've just emailed Amazon UK regarding the warranty length. Will let you know their answer.

Many thanks for taking the time to reply. The Crackberry community is one reason why I love BlackBerry.

It should be added that the burden of proving a fault is on the consumer, not the manufacturer/trader after only 6 months after purchase. So if the phone breaks down within 3 years say, but is due to a common fault or manufacturing error, you will have to prove to Blackberry or retailer etc that it was always going to happen.

It is also not a guarantee the items will last that length of time, but just the length of time you have to be able to take legal action should you wish.

Don't you just love retail laws! I hated selling tv's and laptops etc because of all this nonsense.

Just received this from Amazon UK "In this case, I would like to inform that all items purchased from Amazon.co.uk come with a one year warranty from the manufacturer, unless otherwise stated.

Maybe I should contact Blackberry next?

Not the case for the UK. As I said before, we didn't really adopt the same rules as the rest of the EU.

I think the factor is this: the UK is a member of the eu but the warranty regulations are promulgated under eurozone regulations which the UK has eschewed...I have purchased some UK items bearing 24 month warranty which may have had that applied for consistency Kim the market...
