I currently own a Q10 and was at the Porsche store and saw the 9981. There sure is a major price difference compared to all the other blackberry phones. I have a Q10 which I am truly impressed with. If anyone can offer some feedback as to why I should purchase the 9981 please do.

    Thank you

    You shouldn't.

    1. It's a OS7 device.
    2. Compared to the Q10, the hardware is ultra-dated;
    3. Price is a ripp-off.

I feel it is just a statement of wealth and, such as with the crocodile back option, fashion. If you have so much money you don't mind spending the extra money for something that your current phone does but looks and feels more expensive then go for it. Personally, even if I had the money I wouldn't, but that is just the type of person I am. I don't like flaunting wealth. As if I actually had any anyway.

Does the phone offer any better features or it's just a more aggressive phone construction.

The phone itself is top notch. Essentially titanium, leather and glass. I've never had a phone as well made as the 9981.

    Should you buy it?

    YOU SHOULD!

    1. It's an OS7 device, so it still makes phone calls, has apps, and is rock solid reliable. (seriously what more do you really, really need?)
    2. Compared to the Q10 - it is leagues above in quality. Metal, leather and glass over plastic.
    3. Considering a plastic Q10 is still around $450 off contract and you can get a 9981 $900 new off contract - I'd say you are easily getting double the quality with a 9981.

People who say a 9981 is a rip off just don't see the value, or have no experience buying phones off contract. Hell, my Galaxy phone was $800 new when it came out - and it's all plastic. I was happy to pay a few hundred more for a solidly built 9981.

If you want to spend the $ on a phone - I'd say go for it.

    Good luck!

    Dude, seriously.

It's an overpriced Bold 9900. That's all. It's a VERY expensive OLD phone with an OUTDATED OS (7.1).

Stay clear of it. You have a Q10. It's leaps and bounds better.

This is the ONE argument I can't dismiss. I actually agree. If you want the device, if it won't hurt your savings, if you have the bloody cash, get it.

But you have a Q10 and I see no NEED for you to do that.

Don't you mean a lot of your friends RUN LEAKS?

10.2.1 is scheduled for Q1 2014, which means any time between now and March/14. In the pattern holds, US should see it late Feb - mid March.

Thank you for the update. Boy it's frustrating with att.

A few of my friends purchased a unlocked phone from ebay and the 10.2 was downloaded as I guess the phones came from Europe

For me it would be practical to purchase a p'9981 for business man and salesmans because it's a great conversation stimuli. Plus it screams quality not only for the device but also for the holder of the device. It adds to power positioning to the user of the device.

Awesome response almost 2 years to the day later.
I can't imagine anyone buying that device now when some countries have started shutting down their BIS service according to some posts here.
